We were told our final exam was going to be 3 hours. He writes 90Min on the board. We're still expected to hand-write 3 essays for him in that time. Also, it felt like he wanted a cookie-cutter, quote lecture verbatum answer on the midterm. He's a decent guy but course breakdown needs work. I'm afraid to take stats with him but it's required

Comment:

Abdie is the sweetest guy and cares a lot about his research, mainly on the Muslim Question in Canada. If you show you care, and read the material, you will do well. Mostly essay based exam questions. But he is an easy marker. Not very sociologically 'deep' if you know what I mean, but a great professor none the less.

The class was okay, but I found the exams extremely hard based on what was emphasized in class. The text was heavily emphasized on exams, but not in class, which I found very confusing.. Overall, I would not recommend this teacher :/

If you don't read the textbook you will fail this class! Almost everything on the exams is from the textbook. There isn't much need to actually go to class except to get bonus assignments. Also for every exam he said it would be focusing on names, however upon writing the exams you see a lot of names! I certainly would NOT recommend him ever!

Comment:

Difficult to understand at times due to a thick accent, and the fact that he mumbles when he has the mic on. On days when the mic is not working, it is much easier to understand him since he talks louder and enunciates. Overall not a bad teacher, I wouldn't avoid taking another class from him.

Lots of first years get weeded out of 240 student class. If you just show up and don't talk to your friends like it is still high school you will do fine; otherwise, expect a horrible mark. Abdie will get upset if you start talking, using your cell phone, or distract the class. Just act professional! An A was 80% with the curve!

Great in this applied class. Class was very assignment focused--lots of work every week, but all helpful and relevant. Lectures were a good mix of theory/practice. Final exam was tough on account of all previous work in the class being fully applied (a few sample questions beforehand would have helped a lot). Very helpful and good comments on work.

3850 or 3580 ? keep forgetting the #.. but anyways, if you're into everything that's going on in the middle east then you'll love this class.. it's not so much sociology than it is HISTORY of what's going on vs. today's conflicts. It is really intresting though.. the exams are easy; broad essay questions. MUST ATTEND CLASS!

This is one of the most confusing professors around. He will put notes on the projector and then talk about somthing unrelated, expecting you to take notes on both. Luckily the tests are almost exclusively on the textbook. You would be better off to just stay home, read the textbook and check your e-mail for updates on the test deadline.

The prof is absolutely useless when you ask him questions. He just argues every single time, without ever giving his students a clear, correct answer. He goes, "What do you mean by that?" and "Can you give me examples of that?" No one even participates in class anymore.

Abdie is a useless instructor. He obviously doesn't want to teach and would rather spend all his time doing research. He is rude and demeaning to students. His method is to throw you into the deep end and hope you can swim. He will not help you with questions, only tell you to figure it out for yourself. By far the worst prof I've had in 4 years.

Dr.Kazmipur is actually pretty funny if you like dry humor. He is extremly helpful if you ask him for help. The work load is a lot but the assignments are not difficult, they are actually pretty easy if you attend all the classes, you don't even have to read the text book. As for that T.A. I'll keep my comments to myself.

While no doubt knowledgable, he can be a very intimidating teacher. Personal comments about a classmate leaves me very disappointed in the class. As the assignments for the lab got harder, the less he made him and his assistant available for help. Assignments often took well after the 2 hour lab time. This is completely unreasonable.
