I took this course my first semester of university, which I do not recommend as it was very overwhelming along with the big transition from high school. Alan does give a lot of homework but will give good feedback and will give you the chance to make up for lost marks. He will ask you to read and answer questions in class so pay attention! Nice guy

Lots of work and extremely semester end heavy (2-3 things do a day) very nice and accomidating guy, always loves helping students outside of class, but he will give you the mark he thinks you deserve rather than what your grade says, he will drop your GPA.

There's a huge workload, and you really have to know your stuff to do well on the exams. There's something due almost every class. He's funny and tries to have relationships with students. There are about 5 oral tests, 5 translations as well as 5 chapters to do in the workbook. He lets you correct your work and hand it in again which is nice.

He's really knowledgeable and his class was really fun. He is really good at explaining course material and gives clear expectations for assignments. He cares a lot about the success of his students and is very passionate about languages. However, if you can, skip right to 216 because 215 was an awful lot of review from middle school french.

Great prof. Pretty easy going. Goes through slides too quickly. CAN8 is brutal but it definitely is a part of the learning process. Gives great feedback. Lots of presentations but he usually takes over class discussion. Always comments on how expensive books are lol! Always there if you need extra help. Do your homework & on time and you'll pass.

Great French Teacher. So much homework. Can 8 was god awful. Im sure it was helpful somehow, its just the convos on Can 8 were spoken so fast. I was intimidated by his teaching for a few weeks but adjusted. He does want you to succeed in his course. Just a lot of hard work is needed. All that homework completed will get you a good grade.

Overall he is a very good professor. You're definetly going to learn a lot from him if you put the effort as well. He is, however, a very though professor. Be prepared to have a huge load of homework each night, and say goodbye to your social life.

It's a language course so of course there's a lot of homework and studying involved but the CAN8 seemed like way too much work. He's very nice and can be funny. He seems to be very laid back with handing in assignments on time, he'll give you extensions but may make some fuss about it. I feel like he went over some topics a little too fast.

Alan is a good professor, but be careful when asking him questions. He doesn't like it when you question him. He is most definitely passionate about Russian. Also make sure you give the answer he wants on a test. Before you do his Russian course, study the Russian alphabet and the cursive. It will help you so much in the beginning.

I was the only non-french immersion student in my class and was really nervous/out of place...then 2 weeks in my opa passed away and I fell behind. He was extremely helpful and understanding with me throughout the semester and he definitely has a passion for teaching. LOTS of homework/effort required but he truly helped me learn. GREAT teacher!

Alan is a polyglot and has expectations that his students will try their best. He's incredibly clear about assignments and grading, and you'll get many small assignments. It feels like you're handing something in almost every class, but it's great for steadily learning the language--it forces you to practice. Don't take this class if you are lazy.

Alain, is an extremely passionate prof. He wants his students to be successful. He is very good at what he does and gives many little assignments to help us improve. Overall it was a great class, I improved a lot, he has a great sense of humour. His classes can be a bit dry only because he does his best to engage everyone.

A lot of homework. Hard marker. Hard tests that look nothing like the work done in class. Boring class. Rude. Does not like to be questioned. Passionate about his work, sometimes not allowing you to make your opinions. Loves Can8 which is horrible, basically make you do twice the amount of work, always has glitches, and is very time consuming.

One of my first teachers, didn't really like him. Had him again later, thought i'd give him the benefit of the doubt... still unimpressed. The one good thing I can say is that he is passionate in what he does. However he does not like it when students question him. He can sometimes be rude, making him not very approachable.

Overall a good prof for new French students. Being already fluent, I felt stifled and like he expected me to fit into the lower-level mold. There is no room for out-of-the box thinking or excessive creativity in his class, and a TON of homework. If you are new to French, he is the teacher for you, but if you already speak it, then no.

Do not take if you have other things to do. ton of at home work and still hard to get good mark. chewed the whole class out when he is not happy with the marks we got. seems really nice at first but is a bit hot and cold. Will not take another course from him ever!!!
