The most enjoyable class in university. Alan knows it all, always came to class ready to teach and if he wasn't he still stuck with it. The labs are honestly the best part of the class. Matt the GA is so helpful in all ways. I would recommend this course to anybody. Better take his courses while you can cause he's thinking about retiring soon.

Alan is a very knowledgeable and passionate professor. He will try his best to answer questions you have and provides tons of pictures and diagrams during his lectures. He will often teach something using a PowerPoint, then re-teach it in his own words on the blackboard. Make sure you come to lectures as his slides he provides can be very vague.

He really knows his stuff. The material he teaches in class is very interesting but he jumps back and forth on topics. He repeats himself a lot and his lecture slides are very scattered. Most of the time he leaves me confused after a lecture. If it wasn't for the labs and his awesome GA's, I would have failed.

Great professor. I am really into what he teaches while a lot of people are not. DO NOT make the mistake of not coming to class. If you do not understand something he clarifies it in class (diagrams, short forms answers, key words, etc. Book is needed for select readings. First exam - easy, Second - Medium, Final - Hard (Each evaluation is harder).

Trenhaile was my favourite professor last semester, he has a good sense of humour and is always there to help his students. I must admit his tests are quite tricky sometimes but as long as you attend class and study before you will do fine. I loved how he used the chalkboard so much and drew us diagrams. Overall, a great course with a great prof.

He is truly a seasoned professor. Absolutely knows his stuff, great teaching quality, and extremely good to students. Even though his exams were pretty hard they were always fair. If you reviewed, not the day before, but around a week or two you should be good. He is an application kinda guy, just like most other university professors.

Great prof, alan has a good sense of humour and is really helpful. Although i got an A+ it was my lowest mark in first year... his tests were more challenging than i expected.. just study lecture notes, boxes, readings, etc.

A great prof, very enthusiastic and has a great sense of humour. You must attend lectures. You barely open the textbook, the only time you use it is for his midterms and he tells you exactly what to look up in the textbook. His midterms are fairly easy as long as you study and attend lectures. Highly recommended, I learned a ton!

He's really passionate about what he teaches. He's fairly organized and uses class time efficiently. Gives some hints on what you'll see on midterms and finals. His tests were really tricky and he pays attention to very small details and thus going to class is a must! Overall an okay professor!

I took his class because it didn't seem to difficult but i was wrong. His teaching is all over the place and his classes are very boring. His exams are hard, and he expects to much. If you are choosing this class as an elective because you think its an easy A. ITS NOT!!

He is a very good and easy teacher. The stuff on his slide shows may be a bit confusing but he always explains them by drawing pics on the board (which is very helpful!)His class is quite boring, but it is mandatory! I am glad I took this class because it is easy to get a high mark. His exams r easy as well.

Love the way he lectures; he puts diagrams and anything you're expected to REALLY know on the board. However, for the midterm and exam you really need to know your stuff.. the true/false will trip you up if you don't know the specific details

What a nice guy. He really does care about the students and is always looking to help people if they aren't understanding something. The midterm was really easy. Class is mandatory as he is one of the only profs left who takes attendance! You don't get marks for showing up but he is always more eager to help the people he recognizes. Best prof!

He is SO eager to help out and actually encourages people to go see him if you don't understand something. He's a machine at getting marks back, if you wrote a midterm in the morning you'll get your mark a few hours later (even if it's not scan-tron). His slides sum everything up but must go to class as he writes important details on the board.

Love this guy! This class is the reason I changed my major to Geology. I don't know why everyone is saying his tests were so difficult because everything was derived from lectures. He pays a LOT of attention to detail, so make sure you don't miss class! Make sure you know you write down dates, statistics, etc.

I took his geomorphology class and I actually dreaded going to class on tuesday and thursday mornings. He is very passionate about what he teachs, but I found his lectures very boring and unclear. I felt his mid-terms and exam were hard and I wish I would have never took the class.

Lower year classes were easy- a good lecturer who cares a lot about the subject. This carries through to upper year courses, but he has a bad habit of super easy midterms and weird finals. The final tested a lot of minute details and the conceptual questions were somewhat obscure- a bit disappointed.
