I am only a few weeks into this class, but I have never had a class that has wasted my time and money as this one taught by Al. He is extremely disorganized, uninteresting, and rude, as he throws all attempts of being politically correct out the window. His text analysis is useless and straighforward. If you do the homework then you will be fine.

Took this class cause I heard it was an easy GLER. Most of the tests are open book or take home, multiple choice super easy but the way he marks short answer questions is terrible. His syllabus doesn't show how much tests or assignments are weighted. Overall the most disorganized class I've ever taken, just wings everything. Avoid this Prof.

He didn't provide a grading scale. There was no assessment criteria. Group quizzes, a presentation - which he assigns a few days before you present and a take home final. He suggests wikipedia is the place to find all the information. Some people never had to do a presentation, did they pass? or get excused? Overall doesn't care...

Absolutely no grading criteria, no reading list, no asmt list, no layout of test dates, or mark breakdown. He just throws a presentation at you with 2 days notice. Often assigns a novel to read on friday due for monday, however you can almost always get away with just reading a summary. Despite the lack of organization, can still get a good grade

Lots of unnecessary rambling that eats up precious class time. Does not design the class that would most benefit the students. Instead, time is wasting reading one person's work for a majority of the class, so other people do not get feedback on their work. We were banned from joining other creative writing groups. Not structured enough.

Al is a hilarious, easy-going prof who is a little bit scatter-brained at times but he is extremely knowledgable in various eras of literature. He is extremely understanding when it comes to the busy student lifestyle and takes that into consideration when assigning readings and essays. Definitely take as many classes with Al as you can!!!

Terrrriibbbllleeee. Mad horrible, tasteless jokes that were funny only to himself. Spends very little time actually addressing the material and goes off in unrelated tangents. Apparently we were lucky this semester because he decided not to give us any hard assigments/essays.

As a person, Al is wonderful. As a teacher, Al needs to be a little more direct. He wasted a lot of time while he was trying to figure out what he was doing. However, for a writing class, it was an interesting experience to help you grow as a young writer. Yes, he played favorites, but the prompts were very diverse and you will learn a lot.

He picked clear favorites, verbally told the class who was going to get published. There was no clear organization to the class, all we did was read other classmate's pieces. If you're looking for real tips on how to write avoid the class, but if you are looking to workshop your own writing there may yet be use in this class for you.

Alex is the funniest prof ever! Not exactly known for his political correctness. EVERYTHING is a metaphor for sex, be prepared for that. Reading intensive. Exams aren't hard if you do the reading. If he applies the same concepts to several readings in a section, those are the long answer questions. Few papers, if any, which is nice.

Midterms are super easy, but the final is hard, and brings your mark down. Very interesting lectures, funny, off topic and random. Anti establishment attitude is apparent. Approachable and more than fair when it comes to grading. There is a lot of reading in this class though. One of my favorite prof's at the U of L.

Absolutely Hilarious! I loved this prof. I would definitely take another course with him. He is a real comedian. I really enjoyed how he talked about how to pursue a woman by wearing nice shoes and how to pursue a man by posing certain ways. Exams were not that hard as long as you did the readings that they were on.

This class was awesome, alot less writing than all the other english 1900 courses. You have to like reading, but you dont read the usual, his readings involve many different authors. However the writing portion of this course is great, small writing assignments and the best deal ever are the stories he has to tell!

this teacher rocks. I HATE ENGLISH COURSES before taking this one. He has amazing stories and gets off topic alot. He makes fun of alot celebrities. I am taking his next level course. This coming from a kid who barely passed english every year in high school. A+++++
