I had Dr. Gathman as my advisor and for 3 courses. People have mixed opinions about him mostly bc his classes can be tough if you're not interested in the subject. I'd recommend skimming notes before class - he'll like if you can answer his ?s. Go to class, make sure you ace the hw, study old tests = A ("Trust me, I know from experience, man")

Flippin AMAZING professor! You MUST go to class and take notes! The info isn't hard, it just builds on itself. Follow along through the study guides and you'll be ready for tests! He does grade a little hard, but by the time you take a test, the info should be 2nd nature to you. Covers everything VERY well and is glad to answer any questions!!!

He is really smart and very willing to help you or to answer your questions. you read 4 scientific papers which put you to sleep but he helps you through them. His tests are like his old tests so you always know what to study. read the chapters and do the homework.Also ask questions.I recommend using a recorder because there is a lot of info.

He can be hard to understand but be serious its intro to genetics, did you think it would be an easy A? He grades on spelling and grammar so proofread your work and be able to explain EVERYTHING. be willing to study and ask questions. He will answer any question you have. His old tests are online and all of his tests are VERY similar.

I had Dr. Gathman for 151 and 154. Since I had him for 151, I'm used to his grading technique. Be VERY thorough and you'll do fine. He's a very funny man and probably the most intelligent one I've ever met. TIP: After answering a question, and yourself why. If you've already answered why, then you've written enough for that question :)

I thought this class would be boring...I was wrong. Dr. Gathman made topics like DNA transcription (which might sound difficult) simple to understand, and interesting. After my initial fear, I looked forward to coming to this class. Also, his sense of humor will entertain you if learning doesn't.

He confused students a lot and he still thought his teaching was right. He was really picky about all the assignments and the tests he made. I hope he becomes more comprehensive for the word usage. His teaching sucked overall. There are better professors.

Dr. Gathman is a very interesting professor and encourages you to discuss the material between your peers during class. I had to drop BI154 previously but before I did he was very understanding about my homework and class attendance after my Dad had a heart attack. I can't say that for someone that taught my Chemistry lab!
