Wonderful professor! I took her English 301 Lit Theory class and it was challenging but so incredibly fun. If you're an English major you will love her class. I'm looking forward to taking many more classes with her in the future.

As others have stated, grades on whether you agree with her opinion of the readings. Be prepapred to agree with her if you want to pass with a decent grade. Her opinion matters, not the student, remember this and you will do fine. Would I repeat a course from her again, the answer is notnif I could help it.

She is a tough grader, but allows for revision, especially if can take time to meet with her and explain your views, how you think. She tends to push her own agenda, but will respect yours if she knows where you're coming from. I learned a LOT from her, but I don't think all of it was actually relevant to the class she was supposed to be teaching.

Alma is a great professor and one of the best I have had. Super into her job, interesting lectures, DETAILED feedback with opportunities for revision. Both classes I have taken with her were great. She is a strict grader, but she is the kind of professor that makes you want to work that much harder to get the grade you want.

The courseload is heavy but Dr.Alvarez motivates students to persist. Allows many opportunities for revision. She requires very specific ideas be conveyed in writing and openly disagreeing with her won't get you very far, but she is the most hard-working English professor at SOU, hands down. Should be running the department if you ask me.

Fantastic professor who really takes the time to ensure her students understand concepts. The reading load is heavy, but not unmanageable, and the papers are graded fairly with opportunities for revisions.

Like the other raters have said, Alvarez is one of those professors where the only right answer is hers. You have to agree with her in order for her to pay attention to you in class. If you say something she doesn't agree with, she'll just move on to the next person. She seems to be a nice person, but I didn't like her teaching style very much.

Dr. Alvarez quickly became my favorite teacher. She sincerely wants the best for each student. She is extremely thorough and intelligent. She practically memorized everyone's papers in order to help us. She will gladly spend half an hour in a revising session with you on each paper. Lectures are FUN!

I found the proffessor to be very intellegent and her lectures of the same quality. Her graded writing homework assignments may take some getting used to, however she really isn't asking too much. In the end, I found her to be very fair.
