Had her for ANTH 305 and ANTH 309 and really liked her. She is very kind and understanding. Exams were fairly easy for both courses, and they are the only things you are graded on. My only complaint was that she didn't have great slides and sometimes her lectures were hard to follow.

Andrea is one of the most understanding and supportive professors I have ever met. I had a really bad episode with my mental health at the end of this course and really made a mess of myself after working hard all semester and she was extremely merciful right when I really needed that kindness the most. And she's just so passionate about her work!

Dr. Walsh doesn't use powerpoint and will speak (fairly quickly) as we scramble down notes. Although this can be annoying, most of the information is found in the articles she assigns. No textbook, a straight to the point grader, and really appreciates class participation. The class can be a bit boring at times but overall I learned a lot!

Very passionate about her research and the topics she teaches museums. Very busy, but flexible with assignments and deadlines. Rather over ambitious with the breadth of the syllabus and what she hopes to accomplish during the semester. Lots of little writing assignments and reflection pieces + pretty unique projects. I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

Didn't ever reply to emails, cancelled class almost once a week. Was VERY unorganized with timing, ended up having to take out a ton of articles, and we didn't have time to finish our final project. It seems like teaching is her last concern when it comes to her profession.

Rarely replied to emails no matter how important they were and when she did it was weeks later. She took forever to hand back any work at all, cancelled class way too often for it to be even worth it. Honestly, she doesn't seem to care at all about her students.

No textbook required Awesome; she supplies 2-3 articles/week to read instead. Definitely an artist 1st and an anthropologist 2nd. Has ridiculous expectations that students must attend events set out side of class in evenings and even during our 50 min class (like being downtown), which she uses for essay questions.

Andrea is very passionate about what she is teaching. Took this class only to fulfill requirement and since it fit my schedule and actually ended up thoroughly enjoying it. Projects and papers do require a fair amount of work, but I surprisingly enjoyed them! However, she does NOT reply to emails -- find her in office hours to contact her.

AVOID!! Completely misled us on what was going to be on the midterm, handed out a study guide but 1 of the 3 questions on the test wasn't even on it. Said we should have known it since it was mentioned (briefly) in lecture (why even bother with a guide?!?). I'm a pretty patient student, but I got so frustrated ended up dropping the class.

Andrea honestly couldn't care less about her students. Her instructions are SO vague, and she doesn't even read your essay properly and just gives out mediocre marks despite your effort, and hands back work > than a month later. Never replies emails, picks favourites. Too much time wasted trying to over complicate easy concepts. Avoid at all costs.

I took 305&309 got an A in 305 and a D in 309. Completely bogus. She threw massive curve balls into her tests, barely reviewed for us and had some very strange expectations. When I went to talk to her about my miderm she was not very helpful or understanding. I liked the content of the courses & she is a nice person but the tests were BRUTAL.

I took Anth 309&305 this year with Andrea and they were hands down my favourite courses I have taken so far at UVIC. I found her an easy person to talk to and very helpful. I really enjoyed the content we covered in both classes and her enthusiasim for the material.

She missed more lectures than I did. Found it difficult to understand what she was looking for. Liked her as a person, she was easy to listen to and friendly. Interesting content. I am not an artsy abstract thinker, so I did not enjoy.

I took Anth305&309 with Andrea and they were some of the most thought provoking classes I have taken. Fun as well with fairly easy tests. But put a lot of effort into the projects and it will be rewarded

Andrea is an extremely intelligent, dedicated professor who is genuinely interested in teaching her students. She makes herself available to anyone who has a question. She does have high expectations but university course shouldn't be about slacking. Read the textbook, attend her lectures and you will emerge with a high, well-deserved grade. A+

I think she is a prof who cares about her students and wants them to do well. She is easy to talk to If you don't understand something, she'll do her best to explain it. Her exams aren't too difficult if you go over the lectures.

She really cares about answering your questions. The material is very advanced and her lectures are needed. The exams are difficult and cover a lot of material and concepts. The course was very interesting and the hard work was worth it.

This prof cancelled 7 classes due to meetings, a gallery exhibition and 'not having any more lecture material' for the full last 2 weeks. She assigned 2 textbooks that were expensive, and one was not even used. The course topic was interesting, she knows her stuff, but I found her to be really unorganized and lazy in the cancellation of lectures.

Andrea knows what she is talking about. At first the class is overwhelming because of the work and reading but if you talk to her and get her to proofread your stuff (she likes her writing a certain way), she will help you get the grade you want. Make sure you read, if you dont, youre screwed.
