Comment:
Not sure why people complain about his ENG225 classes being religious... the class is called "the bible in literature". It's the religion requirement. Dr. Silver is great and he really cares about his students and the community. He can be kinda picky with grading (he wants to see specific things in essays) but it's not unbearably difficult.

Dr. Silver keeps you entertained during most classes, which is more than I can say for some professors. He does like to tie things back to religion in his classes and hes very liberal so dont take his classes if you dont share his views. A cool guy and it isnt hard to make a B, you can make an A with some effort. 2-3 papers a class.

Comment:
Dr Silver is a good person, but is probably one of my least favorite professors because we are always behind in class. I also would not recommend this class or him if you're not religiously affiliated because everything is brought back to that.

Great professor but gives A LOT of work. You have reading assignments and informal writings due every class period. Participation is a good chunk of the grade and picks one or a few people always to call on. You learn a lot and gives you ample opportunities to extra credit. He is very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches.

Comment:
Dr. Silver is SUPER passionate about the texts. He'll burst out into spontaneous dramatic readings and use the classroom as a sort of stage, so it gets pretty engaging. Participation in discussion is key, but he does majority of the talking usually. He can get a little off on tangents, but never anything that draws away from the core focus.

There's a lot of informal writing assignments for homework but they're not bad if you stay on top of them. Discussion is very important to your grade. If you disagree with him, you just need to do it respectfully and he will listen to your point of view. He is a great professor!

Dr. Silver is not a good professor. He chooses a teachers pet and then doesn't call on anyone else, even though there is a participation grade for his class. Dr. Silver is highly unorganized and gives assignments late at night, the night before they are due, and gives last minute assignments that are completely jumbled. WOULD NOT TAKE AGAIN

Amazing professor! I learned so much about myself and the world in his FYS classes- and my essay writing skills went up quite a few notches with his tough (but worth it!) grading. I highly recommend any class with him!

Although Dr. Silver is a tough professor and grades hard, his class was very interesting and the grades seem fair. The dailies were a bit tedious but they were really helpful when it came to writing the essay on the particular subject. I would definitely take one of his classes again!

I loved this course. It changed my view on everything. If you have an opportunity to take his course, do it! It is a life-changing class. He's very helpful if you actually go up and talk to him. Dailies can be a pain, but they're helpful on the essays. A superb professor! I would definitely take this course again if I could.

Terrific professor! You can really tell that he loves his subject. If it weren't for this man's class, I wouldn't be an English major. Make sure to take him if at all possible! He may grade difficult, but it's definitely worth it. He will read over your essay's and help as much as possible. Take him!

Dr. Silver is an amazing teacher! Throughout high school, I struggled with writing, but he transformed me into a pretty good writer. He is always there to give critiques, but also finds something good to compliment you about. He is absolutely amazing and I highly recommend him!

Comment:
Dr. Silver is incredibly unfair. He spoke about keeping an open mind in class, yet he would jump down your throat if you were to disagree with him. Unless you're a student who wants to be brainwashed (he wont let any opinion in but his), then don't take this class. I withdrew.

God forbid you write a paper from a view he doesn't agree with. It seems like he'll slice off the top for hurt feelings. He's a good teacher other than that, and his heart is in the right place, but personally? I'm going out of my way to avoid taking a class by him ever again. The condescending tone he gets makes me want to toss him out of a window
