Comment:
Velkey is a really nice and funny guy but his class was super hard. His teaching style is to just write a couple words on the board & then talk for the entire class which is hard to follow along to & isn't very good at explaining things. His class was 100% tests and they were pretty hard. I would not recommend. Takes 20 points off if you're late.

Comment:
Dr. Velkey is hands down one of the best professors I have experienced in the Psyc department at CNU. It is obvious that he cares about his students and the lectures are so easy to follow as long as you pay attention. The assignments for the lab portion are not hard at all, and he is a fairly easy grader when it comes to short papers and such.

Comment:
This class with Velkey is a GPA killer. He doesn't teach you much of anything, in fact he expects you to learn it yourself and just know it all. There are objectives we go by on class that he never goes over. His lecture is all over the place in no relation to what we need to know. Do not take him.

I took him for Neuro because i thought he was a good. WORST decision of my life. There is no structure at all for his lectures. He talks around in circles and spits random vocabs at you. You learn nothing from his course because he does not teach at all! He doesnt even follow the objectives he gives in class that are supposedly the test. AVOID!!

Comment:
His lectures are messy. He puts up picture power points and vomits words at us rather than teaching the specifics that is necessary. He does not go into detail about many things. Objectives are handed out in class but we never go over it or touch up on anything on it. Velkey is cool as a person, but his lectures are all over the place. Do not take.

Very knowledgeable and makes you think. If you are interested in actually learning something and not just getting an A then take him.. do not expect to do well without putting in effort. However, he lets you know what he expects and it is not hard to do well if you pay attention and ask for help when needed.

Decided to take 201 with Velkey because of the great ratings. Worst decision ever. 34 students in the class and 27 failed the first exam. The second exam wasn't any better and the final was way harder than it should have been. I'm usually an AB+ student and a bio major, but this class had me stressing all semester. Take my advice and avoid him.

Dr. Velkey has a fairly strict teaching style, and is a hard grader but as long as you attend class and go to him for help then you'll be fine. His expectations take getting used to but it's achievable. I'll be taking him again for Comparative Psych in the fall.

Easy class as long as you show up, take notes, and mildly study, but you'll learn a lot too. Velkey is really helpful if you need it an typically available. HIGHLY recommended. One of the better decisions I've made/classes I've taken as an undergraduate

It's shocking to see such low ratings for Dr. Velkey. Amazing professor! Will give you all you need to know in class, but it's YOUR responsibility to know and understand it. Very approachable and helpful. If you do bad, it's your own damn fault. He won't spoonfeed the material, but he very clearly will stop at nothing to see you succeed.

Comparative psychology was really useful, there were no tests in this class, instead your still required to demonstrate learning in your writings/labs.

Comparative is amazing! Highly recommended. Really makes you think about the little things in nature you never would have dwelled on otherwise. Bring donuts for everyone, especially if it's 9 AM or earlier.

I've taken multiple classes with this prof, he's awesome. Very helpful and knows tons of info. Always willing to talk to his students. You gotta read the text and keep up with work, but that's college. If you want a slacker professor, look elsewhere. If you want to learn, this is your man.

Class covers a variety of topics so even if you hate the topic there's a new one next week. Exams aren't too bad if you read the text and take good notes in class. The Lab Reports are time consuming and can be hard for a novice writer, but he is very willing to help you.

More interesting of a class than I thought it would be. I heard horror stories about the tests, but those proved false. You can't go in w/o studying at all, but if you put some effort in you'll be fine. He is very opinionated and thinks he's always right, but overall a real nice guy. Class takes some effort, but isn't overkill.
