While a good teacher, she takes her job incredibly seriously. You will find incredibly little wiggle room, because she covers all bases in her syllabi. She has a willingness to help students who struggle, but she gives all students the exact same advise, not recognizing that some students need more help than others.

She expects you to take college seriously. This seems obvious, but do not get mad at her for not using a multiple choice test format. In my experience, I have learned more from her classes than I have with other profs' using a M.C. format. If you are very curious,& in search of knowledge you will love her. She is truly an open book of information.

Comment:
Dr Grens is an exceptional professor with knowledge that is unparallele. The concepts are introduced in a very harmonic way throughout the semester. With that being said, this course is extremely challenging; in that, it requires you to stay on top of things--STUDY, STUDY, STUDY. If you don't, you will not pass, simple!

Dr. Grens is a respected professor in the biology department. She truly cares about each students' needs, whether they are a biology major or not. She is great with office hours, and is all around a great person. In terms of her molecular biology class, I would suggest to try and get the class credits from a different IU campus-the class is HARD!

Comment:
Dr. Grens is a professor who really cares about her students. She makes her expectations very clear but is also very strict with her grading. She wants specific wording on exams and does not give handouts or extra credit. I used a recorder for her lectures since she mainly just shows figures. If you need extra help she is always available.

Comment:
Dr. Grens is dedicated, knowledgable, and has more office hours that any professor I have ever known. She teaches the standard molecular biology knowlege that you would find in any other mol bio class. She makes the class extra difficult through tough grading, starving you for resources. She does not use a book. If you care about gpa, SKIP!

Great person, very intelligent. Hardest class that I have ever taken. Hundreds and hundreds of hours studying still results in mediocre grades from her. If you literally don't memorize her lectures and essentially replicate them on tests, then you will fail. No book, no resources except your recorded lecture. GOOD LUCK

Devo is probably the most difficult biology class we have at IUSB. It in incredibly interesting, but TOUGH. I got an A in molecular with her but a C in devo, if that tells you anything. You MUST go to class and record lectures. She will help you succeed in any way possible. Go to her office and get to know her and walk through the material.

Dr. Grens was my academic adviser for my undergrad. She helped me so much when I had trouble signing up for classes one semester, she stayed late in her office to speak to me about it and consistently emailed me through the weekend until we sorted out the problem. Dr. Grens rocks!

This was by far the most difficult class I have ever taken, and I was terrified of her tests. Dr. Grens tells you what she expects from you, and it is a lot. She has more office hours than any other prof I have had so she is available any time. I would add that her class has prepared me VERY well for the classes I am currently in.

This professor is unprofessional with students and only gives out grades based on personal relationships. She justifies this by using essay tests. I would say more but this site will remove any comments that a professor complains about. Try to avoid this one!!

amazing knowledge but expects students to accomplish such level which is hard to process, also bases test on lecture not book so is hard to understand something if you do not have a second source and you are a visual learner.
