Comment:
The organization of powerpoint material is confusing and her "assessments" are unfairly marked. Coming from a double major student with a great average in her courses, I had a horrible time getting through this course. If anthro isn't your program and you care about your average, I would not suggest this course. Brought down my gpa.

Her midterms aren't that bad as others have claimed. I managed to go 80%, then 93% on her midterms. However, her exam was brutal. I guess I just didn't study enough but found it much harder than the midterms. A little boring to listen to but knows her diseases inside and out!

Fun lectures. Horrible testing. Honour student and I got a 65% in the course. Tests are unfairly marked, very subjective. She expects you to know every little detail eventhough they aren't neccesarily relevant. Lectures aren't clear. Take my advice- get out of her class now!

Innovative and really cares about her students. There is no free ride here but who wants one. After taking a class with Dr. Herring you will know your stuff and she will help you better yourself as a scholar. If you are looking for an easy A maybe you should not have chosen university. If you are looking to learn look for Dr. Herring

By far the worst class I have ever taken!!! Dull and boring lectures. Totally turned me off from Anthropology! Read the text book inside out, cover to cover. Tests and exams are hard if you don't.

Very interesting course, learned a lot, she is a good lecturer. Tests are not super-easy; she does cover the readings quite in-depth so don't think you can just skim the readings and do really well.

Speaking as a student who got a 95% average in high school, I found this course REALLY difficult. It didn't seem to matter that I studied for several hours many days before each test. The problem with the tests is that Dr. Herring expects you to know the textbook inside and out on the tests. If you care about your average, do NOT take this course.

Ok, so the class wann't exactly what I expected, but in the end, it was more useful than any other class I have taken. Required use of several media was very helpful and a fantastic intro to real anthropological applications.

Wicked course... was hoping for a bird, but instead learned a whole lot that I still talk about with people almost 10 years later. Learned more about writing good essays than I ever did in English class, partly due to a great TA... wish I could remember her name.

Loved the class! More challenging then I expected, but not killer. Hint: Study her notes, the textbook and the CD. The tests aren't hard, they just cover alot of stuff she doesn't teach, yet expects you to read.

Dr. Herring is a great prof, with a sense of humour. Some criticize her tests for being too difficult, perhaps thinking her introductory courses would be "bird" courses. It's good to learn, and to be challenged. Is that not why we're going to university?

She made a very easy course really hard. Her powerpoint lectures were unclear and boring. I found it difficult to combine all of the info from the lectures, text and the CD. Her exams were very hard. I don't recommend this course.
