Dr. Toews truly cares about each of his students and wants them all to excel in the class. Lectures are interesting and attendance is encouraged. Study HARD for the tests and you can get an A! I took the time to memorize all the details and did well in the class. Highly recommend this class for pre-nursing students.

I was lucky enough to have Dr.Toews for both biochem 107/108. He is truly passionate & dedicated, extremely willing to help (in fact he met me one-one on a Saturday before a test at a nearby Coffee Shop!) Put effort in, attend tutoring if needed, do not be afraid to ask for help and he will see your hard work and you will succeed in the class!

Dr. Toews is the best professor I've had at UNC and I was glad to have him for 107 and 108. Like everyone else says, he truly cares about his students and learns everyone's names. Exams, which are curved, can be a bit tricky but if you put effort in you'll get good grades.

Dr. Toews is extremely helpful and wants his students succeed. He explains things to the fullest, and his tests are not that hard if you pay attention in class. He makes an effort to learn everyone's names! I got Cs on the first few tests but started doing better after sitting in the front of the class. Lab write ups are easy. Go to peer tutoring

Prof. Toews is amazing--his lectures are very clear and the powerpoints are extremely helpful. He's also personable and funny--and perhaps most importantly, he truly wants his students to do well and is very accessible. SI was also very helpful. Definitely recommend the course, just keep up with the material.

Great professor, wants every student to get an A. That being said, you have to EARN the A! he makes a lot of resources available to students... USE THEM! take advantage of his great ppt slides and lecture notes, go to office hours if you need to, and GO to S.I. sessions, they will make your life so much easier!

Amazing teacher. Like all the other reviews said, hard class, hard material but he understands and does everything possible to help with anything. Just make sure you actually read the outlines and study prior to the night before his exams. Wouldn't have wanted to take any other course!

A great prof---very helpful, friendly, and not to mention funny. If you take this class, you will learn a great range about biochemistry and how to apply it to everyday life. The tests are challenging, but if you stay on top of all the notes he gives out (and he gives out notes for all the lectures), you will do just fine!

He is always willing to help - I've always gotten a direct reply to my emails within a couple hours, and he holds a lot of review session. It is not an easy class, so don't take it for an A, but be prepared to work and LEARN. If you really want to succeed in this class you can with a positive attitude. Great professor, very easy to talk to.
