Comment:

As the semester went by, I found her to be one of my favorite professors. She is VERY caring when it comes to issues that may arise. There are tons of extra credit opportunities and the tests are fairly easy. She is not afraid to show her liberal ideology but is accepting to other conservative ideas but be prepared to debate if you do share ideas.

Comment:

Definitely on the liberal side and not afraid to show it. BZ is a decent teacher though. She lectures everyday and you need to show up and take notes to make a good grade. She barely has any exams and there is NO HOMEWORK which is great. She offers lots of extra credit and is easy to talk to. Don't get on her bad side though. Take her!

Comment:

Dr. BZ is one of my favorite professors at App State. She is very passionate about the criminal justice system and she shows that while teaching. Show up to class, listen during lecture, and take notes and you will make an easy A. She tells you exactly want she wants on assignments and tests so if you fail its your own fault.

Comment:

Dr. Zaitzow loves the subject of criminal justice but is also very against Americas way of handling it. She is very liberal and makes it clear in her class. She knows the material very well, but again sometimes focuses too much on why a method is bad rather than explaining something else. Conservatives, just stay quiet and you will be okay.

Comment:

I love BZ!! She is one of the best professors I've had at App. She is strict about distractions in class (phones, laptops, doing things for other classes, sleeping, etc.) but her lectures are always worth paying attention to. She offers plenty of extra credit, but honestly if you just pay attention in class and skim through the book you'll pass.

My class was unique. There was only 8 people and we met once a week for 3 hours. Very intimate setting, she WILL get you to participate. For some reason she thinks that if we miss class for snow she can lawfully enforce class meeting on Saturday morning. Joke. But other than that, I learned a lot. No tests.

Dr. BZ was overall a great professor. Her lectures were always very detailed and if they were confusing to a student, she would be willing to clarify. She also did very well with making the subject matter interesting(by just being hilarious), and the tests were easy as long as you studied.

BZ is quite blunt with her opinions in her lectures. The class is very easy as long as you complete what is laid out and go to extra credit opportunities. The subject matter is very interesting and she can be funny. She gives extremely helpful study guides to the tests and there is a mandatory prison trip and write up as well as another paper.

Excellent professor, very passionate. I get the feeling that those who are not pursuing Criminal Justice as their major and are not interested in this area do not see the sincerity behind her lectures. I went to every class, studied everything she wrote down, did all assignments and the extra credit and got a 99 in the class. Straightforward.

Really easy professor and class. You need to attend class, as most of the test material is from class lecturesvideos. I would definitely recommend reading the book as well, as occasionally she pulls a lot from there. Otherwise, really helpful, gives extra credit, and really nice.

BZ is a pretty awesome professor. She can be a bit crazy at times but she is always fair when it comes to grading. Not that hard of a class but you definitely need to go and take notes since she does not post them online. you get to do some fun papers in the class. Would take her again.

BZ is awesome and if you do not take at least one of her classes you are missing out! You have to go to class bc she will talk about everything plus you will want to bc she is hilarious and interesting. Her exams are pretty self explanatory and in sync with notes but it will help if you skim the book. Take her I promise you will enjoy her classes!!

This was a seminar class with 8 total students. I really enjoyed all aspects of it. Most all of class was just a discussion, with 3 writing assignments. She will often take her students inside of the prison system, during this class we went to 3 (which was required, and VERY beneficial). If you can get past her policies she is a great professor.

Way too much work for a Freshmen level class, If you have a busy semester planned don't take her. Unclear lectures and impossible to take good notes for the tests. Goes off on random and irrelevant tangents. Very opinionated. Would not take her ever again.

She is absolutely fantastic! If you enjoy professors who are passionate about their work and love their students, you will love BZ. She will listen to any opinion and shoot straight with you, always. Make sure you go to lectures and read the book. Basically, just take it seriously and you will be perfectly fine. She is my favorite ASU professor! :)
