Comment:

Betty's lectures are awful and her slides are totally useless, there's no other way to say it. Attendance is mandatory and she uses iclicker type questions. She's a caring and hilarious person though and can be helpful in office hours, plus her midterms are fairly easy. She's unavoidable for 245/246, but DON'T take 203 with her if you can avoid it.

Comment:

Betty is amazing! She is super funny and caring. However, her lectures are a bit boring and slides seemed useless. If you want to do well, just try out practice midterm she posts and you should be fine (even though she makes a lot of mistakes in her solutions). Overall, easiest econ class I've taken. However, her exams are long and exhausting.

I dont know why some people have negative comments about her, but she is definitely an amazing prof. She is a free style professor, but shes funny and helpful, extremely easy-going. Exams are also straightforward and fair. If you take Econ courses, you should definitely take with her !!!

Comment:

Betty is actually the closest thing to your mom lecturing you, you'll find being in University. Make sure you just attend the labs and follow exactly what the lab TA is doing, study exactly the practice final/midterm she puts out, and you'll get an easy A. Betty wants everyone to get highest grade possibly, fresh change for everyone.

She is the nicest prof in econ. really she has a huge heart and care about her student she desire so much better on rating. super beloving prof in uvic. a lot of calculation for exam but she is super good at teaching the material. and really she cares about student. would definitively take any class she teachs

Incompetent slides maker. Riddled with errors, and has blanks in them, that makes studying slightly harder, and a lot more annoying. In class the slides don't show what the blanks are, so whether you go to class or not the slides are terrible. She also goes way too fast, and sometimes all over the place

Betty's lectures are fill in the blank notes so it's really hard to learn actively. She also frequently gets distracted and will talk for up to 30mins about unrelated material. Avoid if you can, but beware the beast guards required courses.

Attendance is mandatory, yet the slides she gives us has gaps that we need to fill during class, in PDF format, a Pain. no recommended extra work from text, do not buy the text. over complicates things and glosses over other things. midterm/final tests are essentially the practice ones she posts, but with different numbers

Kind woman, poor professor. I genuinely feel sorry for my classmates who get discouraged as she takes very simple stats problems and makes them overcomplicated/confusing. Examples are rushed through/very messy, tests are easy but only if you're willing to teach yourself literally 90% of the material outside of class. Deff not a prof for everybody.

very good lectures, but attended just cuz of her little iclicker questions. make sure u go through her practice midterms because they are exactly like the final tests. lends u her own textbook when and if u need it, overall, a gem.

Easiest class I haven taken in my degree. She gives you the midterms and finals for practice then uses the EXACT same format just different numbers and maybe one different short answer.. you can easily get an A in this class. Final is the exact same as the midterm, just do the practice and you will do great

The grading system makes it quite easy to get a good grade in this class. Fill in the blank lecture notes can be annoying, however, as well as mandatory attendance. Funny prof that genuinely cares about her students and is fair at grading.

Hilarious professor! Lectures can get overwhelming with how much information she gives you per day. I'm also not a fan of her lecture style by giving you notes with blanks to fill in. Overall a fun class with Betty though.
