I'm honestly not sure where all these glowing reviews are coming from. I wound up dropping the class early on because this professor was so unclear and unhelpful. Could barely hear a word she said, and what I could hear was generally somewhat rude. There are many better MU English professors to choose from; Skinner is just not worth the headache!

She was my favorite professor. Very easy class. Read the book. She focuses heavily on critical thinking. If you are an independent thinker you will ace this class. She really hates the whole jar head mentality. If that sounds like you, take the class anyway. you probably need to hear what she says. Try to sit in the front row.

Can barely hear her in class. She is also very rude towards her students and is unfair. It is an easy class. But she is not a very good teacher. She needs to learn respect towards others. She treats her students like high school students and spends more time yelling and making fun of you than anything else.

An amazing professor. Show up to her class an do the couple of projects/papers/journals and you will pass easy. I've had her for 3 classes each semester have had her once. It seems to be getting easier though in each class. She sometimes rambles about random stuff but once she's on topic you learn so much. I love this professor.

Such a great lady to teach this course. I thoroughly enjoyed her interpretation of Black literature since she is African American. She is so enthusiastic about teaching her culture. Grades were mainly from group work and paper assignments. This is my second class with her.

She is such a joy to have as a professor. Despite being physically disabled, she is very thorough and easy to understand. Textbooks were very useful. Grades were mostly for participation and papers, not tests. I have taken her 3 times since.

Insane lady. Brilliant, but insane. Love her, though. Don't take her if you're OCD about grades, getting things back in a timely matter, or actually getting things accomplished in class. She'll teach you a lot if you listen at the right moments, and you'll definately become a better writer because she has you do corrections until perfection. :)

Skinner had to drop out of our class due to illness but from when she was there the class was a really easy A. She was really nice to her students if they were good and embarrassed them if they were not good which was hilarious to watch. She was sweet but her class was really boring. She can also be very confusing with what she wants you to do.

Inspiring and dedicated professor. She takes your writing ability to the next level. Gets you to see the text you are writing (or reading) in a way you had not thought of. Intelligent, sensitive to others and their opinions,and down-to-earth.

If you are shallow, like square boxes, lectures and notetaking and neat little tests, do NOT take Dr. Skinner. She is a brilliant scholar who invites students to really think. Her personality is endearing, kind, and outgoing. Negative, arguementative, self-righteous students should not take her. You don't deserve her!
