Dr. Bement is a helluva guy. He's charismatic and pretty funny, and lectures are very engaging. He's extremely helpful outside of class and good and answering questions. Only downsides are since Bio 101 is often packed, it can be hard to hear him in the back of the hall, and he moves pretty quickly during lecture so you have to pay good attention.

Agree with next poster. No notes posted online, and he writes faster than any professor I've EVER seen. So hard to keep up taking notes, and exams are also very very difficult. He's a great guy, but a horrible professor.

I don't understand how everyone likes him. This is by far the worst class I have taken as a biology major. He writes on the board very quickly with his back to the class most of the time. I went to every class, wrote down everything he said, and memorized my notes and never did better than a 75 on an exam. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS

Bement is a stud! His teaching style at first is awkward but after he is done with his portion of the class, you will forever hate powerpoints for the rest of your life. You have to go to lecture because nothing in online, but every class should be taught this way. Not an easy class, but tests are basically note recall with a couple application ?'s

Amazing professor - the best I've had. Every lecture is entertaining, informational, and interesting. It's professors like him that make UW such an elite institution. His policy to only hold the students accountable for what he writes on the board is very fair and quite entertaining due to all the running around he does.

Do not take this class unless you are *seriously* motivated to learn cell bio. Bement is nice, and a funny guy, but his teaching style is awful. You'd learn more reading a textbook to yourself in a funny voice. I gained maybe two weeks' worth of actual knowledge from this class, the rest was useless details, forgotten the instant the test ended.

Bill Bement is one of the craziest and most intellegent men I know. I worked for him in his lab for 8 months, and took 570 with him. His teaching style is eccentric, but he's also very easy to listen to in lecture when you get to know his style. His tests are ridiculous, yet entertaining, and every day in class was totally unexpected. Loved it.

Entertaining and great lecturer. Must attend every lecture and memorize all the details to do well on the exams. He writes everything on the board really fast so be prepared to keep up. Though the curve is a pain since you're competing with grad students, the material in the class is interesting and applicable to other science classes.

Awesome professor with a fantastic interest in the material. Incorporates 'real world' scenarios in the form of literary reviews relating to pertinent concepts in order to demonstrate strengths and weaknesses within the field. He's helpful outside of class, and has a genuine interest in his students. Tests are fair are based solely on lectures.

My main concern with Professor Bement was that he writes on the chalkboard extremely quickly, so it's very difficult to keep up with him and concentrate on what he's actually saying unless you write quickly in cursive. I like to write in print and make it very neat, but I had to give up on that. Bring your laptop to take notes, imo.

Excellent professor, excellent guy. Highly recommended. Do NOT buy the book. Attend ALL lectures. Take good notes. Re-Copy all notes, ask questions where necessary, then get to memorizing. He made Cell Bio very interesting, and always provided you with what you needed to succeed. Low-tech (chalk + board) - too many get lazy w/PowerPoints imo

Bill was the best prof I've ever had! He really made cell bio so much fun for me. Inspired me to learn more about this area he was so passionate about. Yeah...I guess I had a little crush, but it only made me work harder! He's an awesome teacher and I'd take his class again just because it's him teaching it.

I LOVED this class and professor! He is hilarious and that carries into his exams. The exams are not hard if you memorize your notes, and the book is not needed at all as long as you go to every lecture. I would definitely recommend taking this class with Bill!
