Says class is an "easy A." Yet if you turn in everything and then email the teacher countless times about issues he will never respond and completely ignore you. Very misleading "professor" and a classic example of carelessness

I was afraid that I might have hard time in this class after hearing how hard achem is but Dr. Lacourse made this class fun and easy. He most of the time connected what we learn with other field of study such as biology as well as relating it to real life situations. He's test is ok if you study and do the online hw in advance.

One of the best professors I've had at UMBC. He is very open to questions and will be glad if you set up an appointment with him to discuss anything you may not understand. Exams are difficult but he does curve the overall class. Only downside is his handwriting - you will most likely have to ask him to clarify what he has written.

Dr. LaCourse is a wonderful professor. He is very smart and understands the material he teaches unlike other professors. I find it very helpful that his door is always open. He is very amusing, and has wonderful analogies. Overall, wonderful proffesor and i reccomend that you take his class.

Nice professor. His analogies can be confusing, and his teaching style is not necessarily the best, but not horrible. The one downside is that he goes very fast in lecture sometimes, and he is hard to understand at times, although it would help if I had read the text beforehand. Exams are for the most part easy and straightfoward except exam 2

OMG! Where do I start...Most of this class is a chem 102 review. It is true that he lectures from slides, but makes chem jokes and relates things to real life so that you will understand and remember. The tests are difficult, but very passable. He will answer questions as many times nec. I absolutely love him! He's the best a.chem prof at UMBC!

Just read the lecture slides and moved through them quickly-really no point ingoing to lecture, what I learned in lecture I could have learned at home off the internet and probably would have learned it better than in class. I'd recommend taking CHEM 102 at an entirely different school, if you can - at UMBC you'll only be dazed and confused.

OMG Avoid this man at all costs, he'll tell you an exam is on one thing, give you the exam on diff. chapters and still count it. he is clearly uninterested in gen chem and makes it known. you dont know grades until last minute, and even so he rarely gives a's and b's. avoid him!

I think he would be a MUCH better off teaching Analytical Chem isntead of basic Chem 101. Its not his forte. He is critiized because he himself didn't seem to completely enjoy this very basic subject. Overall, he's actually very nice if you get to know him. Not very helpful though but that should be covered by your TA.

Dr. Lacourse is an analytical chemist and really shows his interests in AChem. His exams are tough but he gives chances for students to redeem themselves. Exams relate to real life experience. He makes sure the students are fine with the class, spends time to listen to complains and whining stuff from his students. Only teaches AChem in summer.

If you can't take the heat of this course, you don't deserve to be a scientist. While the course itself isn't a cakewalk, his lectures had vitality that kept me awake last semester. Definitely makes your brain work, which is more than I can say for people that expect it to be easy. Tough luck.
