Regretted my decision to take this course. Interesting material, but his lectures are awful. The two times I approached him with course-related questions/concerns, he shot me down and left me feeling humiliated and discouraged. Tons of heavy reading, lots of work, hard to keep up. One of the worst courses/profs I've had during my time at UBC.

I agree that he's a boring lecturer, but at least he's a nice person. He also replies email inquires promptly which is good. I'm actually surprised at his generosity on the grade given to me.

Strongly disliked him. Extremely unclear assignments, an excessive amount of papers and readings for one semester. He made some very crude and politically incorrect jokes, and taught a lot of misinformation regarding biology and genetics.

Bill is very knowledgable and passionate about the subject matter. Yes there is a fair amount of reading to do, but that is expected in a 4th year course. He does not expect you to memorize every detail of the assigned readings. Rather, they are meant to help you grasp his lecture points. He also is a fair marker.

I was really interested in the subject material but be warned, this class is SO boring. His lectures and powerpoints are confusing and not helpful at all to study from. Discussion in the class is minimal and I found it extremely hard to stay awake every week. Midterm is ok but the final and paper were graded pretty harshly.

Very disorganized, unclear, and shows poor understanding of data. Your best bet is to direct all enquiries to the TA.

Comment:
Most unpedagogical teacher I ever had in (4th year). Assignments were unclear, an amount of work that was not realistic (1 ethical seminar; 1 book review; 2 hospital observations with 10p. report; 1 interview with another 10p. report, one class presentation and a final 20p. paper). I was disgusted. Above all, no interest on intercultural diversity.

Took it b/c it was mandatory. Heavy reading load. He has ppt but doesn't post em up. Besides more than half the class we watch other students give presentation. Lots of names to memorize and dull material. He doesn't do much to mitigate that boring atmosphere either. Exams are on "fair" side but genealogy project was rather redundant.

Challenges students to think in new ways. Engaged and interested when doing discussions, less so when lecturing. The more you talk in his seminars the more he likes you

Very interesting class, but these bits of interest were amidst information overload. Enjoys making things difficult, it seems. Good speaker, thoughtful lectures.

His class is extremely boring and it seems like he does not know what he is talking about. Uses up a lot of class time to do group work which is very unhelpful.

He's an ok Prof but his lectures are disjointed and sometimes boring. Final was on Dec 18 and term papers were not returned. It is now Dec 31 and grades are still not posted. Apparently deadlines don't apply to Professor Mckellin...

classes were unorganized and unclear. He did about 3 lectures and then the rest of the semester was student presentations, which are totally not helpful. unhelpful outside of class. Bad attitude toward students. Seems sick of teaching. Made what could have been a really interesting topic very boring and limited. It should be called anth of genetics

too many assignments that don't count for anything!! insane paper, boring lectures. i feel like by making the students do presentations, he got to slack and do less lectures. i like his exam style- at least he gave us the questions in advance, i wouldnt be able to remember all those anthropologists off the top of my head.

SO BORING. 3/4 of the semester has been bad student presentations, which he takes weeks and weeks to post on web CT. I think he's probably a fairly nice guy, but he's in his own world if he thinks this class is engaging.

if this class is not required DO NOT TAKE IT!! Boring as hell, a lot of little stupid, and irrelevant assignments, a waste of time and money.
