The funniest prof ever. First semester is super easy but second semester he starts marking super hard - your grades are guaranteed to go down significantly. Requires a lot of work to pass and he is permanently on Beijing time so you'll never get your midterms back and you'll get emails at 3am. But if you wanna learn Chinese then worth it.

Prof. Wang is the perfect professor for First Level Chinese. I wish he was teaching Second Level! He is very kind and caring towards his students. His lectures sometimes can be a bit disorganized sometimes, and you do have to do A LOT of independent studying but otherwise he is decent.

He's a chill prof & you feel like you can talk to him about anything in class but you need to do a lot of work on your ownself teaching, he doesn't demand much in class but midterms are a lot harder than you'd expect so definitely do the optional hmwk he gives, as long as you have a passion for Mandarin, you will do well

Great professor! Helpful, funny and really nice. However be very careful to clarify all assignments and what will be on the test. He often skips lessons, adds content or has specific requirements for assignments he will not announce in class. Take the time to ask exactly what will be required of you.

I absolutely loved this class. Everyone was enthusiast and participated. Dictations and assignments are easy. Midterms are long but fair. I liked the language lab sessions because we would all get our chance to practise speaking Chinese and the teacher would be free to answer any of our questions. 1st half year: practise writing 2nd half: grammar

Such a cute man. If you put in the effort, you will get a good grade. Dictations are easy and the midterms arent too challenging. Language Lab is incredibly annoying but going to those classes isn't mandatory and he doesnt really seem to mind whether you come to class regularly or not so long as you study on your own time.

Good prof that takes his time in class to explain content thoroughly with, at times, a couple fun side-stories. Study book regularly, copy characters many, many times to memorize them and you should do well in this course while picking up the basics in the language.

He's an awful professor that is prejudiced against people who have any background knowledge in Chinese. He forced and bullied me into dropping his class even though I talked to the department and got confirmation that I should be in the beginner's level (all because I knew some Chinese, but my level was not high enough for the second level course)

It's hard to say it, but he is probably the worst professor i have ever had. You can get a decent grade, but as for much learning you will not find it here. I would strongly suggest taking another language or not taking Chinese with him. He has an awful style and needs to be updated on how Chinese should be taught.

I did not enjoy his class at all. I feel he is very condescending to students who struggle with the course content and throughout the semester, about 1/4 to 1/3 stop attending or just show up for dictations. If you work hard on your own time you get a good grade. I did not enjoy him as a person or as a teacher.

He usually has solid lessons, however, as the class goes on, he seems to do less of the teaching relying mostly on CAN8 while he sits at the front of the class. He also definitely dislikes anyone who is of Cantonese background and shows it through harder marking, even though Cantonese is a completely different dialect. We should be marked equally.

OK, yes he is a very sweet and funny man, but honestly, not a very good language teacher. He's very articulate and could potentially be a great tutor, but he doesn't assign any homework and when he does, it's not all that clear. I dread going to this class every time, cause I'll be bored out of my mind and I won't learn anything. sry wang laoshi.
