Bob gives enough material to learn from. However, you need to access different places and be aware of the LearningHub to know where each material is located. The home reads are mandatory, wait for low marks on the class quizzes otherwise. When he says "it is a good practice", it is mandatory on the assignments. Quizzes contain most of his comments.

Each week, there are about 100 slides to read, 2-3 coding lab assignments (not graded), a coding assignment as well as weekly quizzes that are on previous class and current class. There's also extra readings that goes into detail of lectures. The people who failed, most likely didn't put in as much effort as others. Do everything and you'll pass.

Rob explained most thing you need to know on lecture, but you still need to spend some time on reading the material and assignment. He used the D2L discussion section as his "office time" to answer any questions you have. If you can survive In his class, you can get a solid grounding of C. Don't complain about math because that is necessary.

He is clear on the topics he teaches and will answer your questions in class and on D2L. That said, I've worked for big software companies before and his logistics are poor. He has material in 3 different locations, and quizzes you on topics that he will teach after the quiz. Justifies this by saying they are mandatory readings. Quiz us after.

Pros: explains material well during lecture. Gives smaller assignments which are manageable. Cons: very stubborn and lazy. will NOT let you keep your quizzes midterms which is a huge NO for me. does not have office hours and DOES NOT help on assignments. I had to ask other teachers for help. try to take this with Albert...

I came here to read Bob's reviews before taking COMP2617. Needless to say I was dreading taking the course based on the reviews here. But after taking the course, I must say the reviews here are far misleading. Bob is one of few instructors who really cares about teaching. I definitely wouldn't hesitate to take a course with him again.

Makes everything extra difficult without any necessity, don't really test the subject C++. You will lose marks for math instead. Do the quiz is just a big prank, questions are not directly. Definitely the worse teacher that Ive ever taken classes in BCIT.

Bob is very good at C++ and can answer any questions about software development with it that you may have. He is one of the most difficult markers that I have encountered at BCIT. That being said, I think I learned a lot from both of his classes because of the standard that he holds his students to. Be ready to study like heck.

Be prepared to read ahead and sift through the mountain of information he provides. For submitting assignments there are instructions in 5 separate places on how to submit and each is slightly different. His quizzes are based on the homework that is assigned the class before. Did some creative scaling on exams. Lectures ran long most classes.

Bob is a greater instructor. He outlines in detail what will be covered each week. With the textbook, PowerPoints, videos, and extra examples/notes, there are a multitude of resources to learn in the way that best suites your learning style. He is very approachable and happy to help if you have questions. Lots of work but fair.

Comp 2617 and Comp 2618. These were not easy courses but I learned a lot! If you are serious about learning the C++ language, then you cannot go wrong by taking these 2 courses from Bob. I was able to move from doing QA to writing C++ code for my employer after completing these 2 courses. I really feel that I achieved a strong foundation in C++.

Bob is one of the harder instructions I've taken in COMP. It doesn't help that C++ is a much harder language than more modern ones like C# and Java. You will learn a lot, but prepared to work hard. Also doesn't allow notes, etc.. for exams. Makes sense - you don't get to use notes in job interview coding challenges, either.

Bob is a great prof - and I have great respect - there is lots to cover in 2*12 weeks and he sure does his work extremely well in my personal opinion to lead you to towards the end of the tunnel for both COMP-2617&2618. having said that be prepared to WORK HARD! this is NOT an easy course-C++ is a powerful language and it sure does deserve ur time

Exams are tough but for such a potentially confusing topic he does a great job explaining the necessary details. Really good idea to write down what he writes on the board and if he specifically says to write it down, expect it on the exam. If you like programming, you'll like this class. If you don't then why the hell are you taking C++?

Bob followed the course outline, plus added in some extra material for students to study. This improved and broadened my knowledge in C++. Raised questions and they were answered. Assignments/quizzes/exams were moderately difficult, but I think it's good for learning.

Instructor taught an easy-to-follow class with plenty of detail. He gave extra examples of difficult concepts, and was always open to questions. His assignments taught not only the course content, but also required effort in algorithm design, and general best practices such as coding style.

I would not say that the course was easy but I feel that I learned a lot. Bob is quite earnest about "enabling", as he likes to put it, students to learn the material. If you do the work he assigns you will get a lot out of the course. Also, I felt Comp 2617 was a good review of some of the subjects we covered in Comp 1409 and Comp 1451.

Bob knows his stuff and truly teaches a Comp Sci course here. Most of his students are just getting into programming and you can see it in the marks. He has a ton of information but it's pretty scattered, and he is a brutally hard marker. EXPECT NO EASY MARKS! He also loves to get you to prog a lot of math equations, so know ur maths!

Bob, please stop teaching. Too anal, dry, unorganized and confusing. Bobs knowledge, expertise and teaching style would be better for 2nd or 3rd year courses not introductory. He actually graded us on the quality of algorithms and optimization in an intro to C++ course!?

I would read a chapter having a good grasp om the subject matter only to be completely confused after coving the same subject matter in class. Convoluted, useless and not worth taking if you don't have to.
