If he wasn't born in Turkey I would vote for this man for President. He is hands down the best professor I've ever had. He's insanely intelligent yet so humble, and he genuinely cares about his students. He's highkey sassy and his sweater game is mad strong. Probably loves Ottoman legal history more than his wife. Honestly wish he would adopt me.

He's such a good guy and he genuinely cares about his class. He's really funny, and he takes time to learn our names. Not gonna lie, his class was really difficult for me, but I definitely could have been putting in a LOT more effort than I was. If you keep up with the reading, he's a great lecturer and a super respectable guy

Professor Ergene is the most caring, professional, knowledgeable, intellectually challenging professor at UVM. You will learn more from him than from any other professor at this university. He also cares more about his students and puts forth time to learn everyone's name regardless of the class size. I wish I had him for every class.

This was a seminar class. I've rarely had a professor who was as enthusiastic about students' interests and contributions as he was! Strongly recommend, he is very knowledgeable but also cares about his students.

Ergene is one of the hidden gems of UVM. He expects a lot of you (this isn't a negative attribute). Take his classes, engage with his work (the demands are not easy), and you'll thank me later. Also at the higher level courses, he expects engagement with material and values it more than strict adherence to guidelines. TAKE HIS CLASSES

He is a really great guy, he has a heavy turkish accent. although his lectures may be a little dry at times, they are always very interesting. I am hoping to get him again in the future for a different course because he is a really great professor! Would recommend as long as you have some background knowledge to the course you're taking

Professor Ergene is an amazing lecturer, and is really passionate about the subject. You have 4 writing assignments per semester, but you are only expected to write two of them. You have one midterm and one final. Despite how good of a lecturer he is, the class is really hard because all of the terms are in Arabic.

Professor Ergene's class is definitely challenging, but manageable. The material isn't simple but his lectures are clear, informative, and interesting! The class can seem a little long at times and he is not an easy grader, but overall a solid, fair, interesting class!

Great professor, very interesting and passionate. Always willing to help out a student. However, the course itself is very challenging so I would not suggest you take it if you have a hard time keeping track of places/names. All of the nouns are in Arabic which was very hard for me to keep track of. Not an easy grader, but great prof.

This class was a challenge but Bogac is very fair. He expects you to attend class and read the textbook in order to do well. However, he is always willing to offer help and extra-credit. Very interesting class and he is very passionate and knowledgable. But his lectures can be boring at times. Overall, would recommend this class.

Ergene is such a nice guy! His class was very interesting, but it's sometimes hard to remember what he's talking about because many of the names/places/things he talks about are in Arabic. I strongly suggest you memorize the 'nouns' in your notes after class. Actually read the books he assigns too!

Bogac is an authority on the Ottoman Empire. The class may be on Middle East history but is focused highly on the Ottomans. He is full of knowledge. The class is hard and there is a lot to know and understand but it is worth it if you want to really get a feel for Middle East history.

45 is not an easy class. But Prof Ergene was effective. He tends to be demanding of students but I did not mind this. Bigger issue for me was how crowded the class was. 125 or more students? He tried to pace around the class room to establish contact with more students but class size did not allow much involvement in discussions etc.

After reading so many glowing reviews about Bogac I was more than excited to start his class. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed once I got there. His lectures were beyond incoherent, he wandered around the lecture hall so that you could only hear him part of the time, he barely takes questions, and overall I feel like I learned very little.
