I have never met someone who looks at a second year student like the biggest waste of time in my life. No office hours because they aren't worth his time and 100% of your grade comes from exams. He didn't care at all that more than half the class was failing going into the final. Heard he's better in upper years b/c of more interesting courses.

Good prof, once you know his style. Attendance is not mandatory, but you have to go to class to get all the extra info not posted online. Exams are fairly tough but fair and he's not out to trick you. The interesting material in this course helps to stay focused.

Took 244 in 2005, so I've some time to reflect. Dr. Amsden is a great prof! Very intelligent man who has a knack for getting the point across. Be prepared to put in a bit of work, but the result is an enjoyable class!
