Larkins is a smart guy, but he cannot teach. His class is disorganized and his lectures are extremely boring â?? he just stands there mumbling the text from his power points. Not to mention, the tests are insanely difficult. In terms of organization, Larkins would often have the dates for stuff mixed up (even for the final!). Worst class I've taken.

This professor is, quite frankly, a bit creepy. He doesn't prepare you well for the test, so study the online lecture and supplemental slides in order to well on the test.

Worst biology class you could take. He reads off of his power points that are absolutely no use for the exams. The exams are extremely difficult and he doesn't prepare you for them at all (unlike every other class).

He tries his best to help everyone, but he expects too much out of his students. He talks about many things in class that may never be in the test. He says to do the practice tests, and you will be fine, but it is not true. If you do not know the material inside and out, you will fail the exams, especially the final. So take him at your own risk.

He looks like a turtle. He is older and doesn't speak loud and is very boring. I fell asleep most of the time. He is a hard teacher. I got two F under 40% and a D and a C with a F on my final, and still passed the class with a C.

Teacher is a nice guy but his lectures are much to brief on specific subjects compared to how in depth his test questions are. Study his online powerpoints, not the class powerpoints and also study his online quizzes and old tests. If you do this the class will be much easier, however it is definitely a hard class.

He tries his best, but it is a real learn on your own class. He provides the resources, such as online notes, but you also read the chapter. He says to just study the old exams, but usually, it is not good enough. You have to really know your stuff because he asks confusing questions. But if you study, you can do well.

He offered extra credit which was very simple. However, a lot of the material requires you to learn on your own because in lecture it is covered very quickly. He curves, which is nice because the class averages are usually abysmal.

He is a terrible teacher. He is boring in lectures and he is disrespectful. He belittles his female students and laughs at people in his office hours. He is unprofessional and refered to killing himself in class. Doesn't teach the material very well. His class is not recommended.

Dr. Larkin's is a sweetheart but the way he teaches is not the ideal way to learn bio. DON'T TAKE AS A FRESHMAN!! way to overwhelming. If you learn well but if you like just listening to a rambled lecture with 300 other ppl go for it. It's a very learn on our own class. But Larkin will help you if you go to him.

Comment:
Dr. Larkin's class has a lot of information in the lectures, especially diagrams and pictures, so it could be boring sometimes. The tests are kind of tricky because of the wording of the questions, but you can do fine if you study. Dr. Larkins is always willing to help you, but you could get all the information from the textbook or online.

TAKE HIM FOR YOUR BIOLOGY TEACHER FOR U O A. THE OTHER ONES SUCK. I had him, and I thought he was so hard, and honestly, he isn't easy, but he is much better than the other biology teachers. GO INTO HIS OFFICE HOURS. He will help you so much. He really wants to help, because no matter who you have, this will be a hard course. Try to get him!

Try your best not to take BIO with Larkins! This man is boring in his lectures and will make you fall asleep! Only take this class if you want to learn the material on your own.

Lectures were boring and I had to really try to stay awake. He tries his best to make them interesting with "commerical breaks". However, online quizzes were an easy 180 points and the material is interesting. Got B's on all the multiple choice tests, but ended up with an A in the class.

everyone seemed to love this guy, but i wasn't a big fan. unengaging in my opinion, but at least he made this an easy and straightforward class: all multiple choice tests (4x 100 pts), multiple choice final (200), and easy 100% d2l quizzes (180). no graded homework. not sure if it was curved, but easy A in my book regardless.

Larkins is very nice and does a pretty good job explaining, but it is a harder class you have to put in the work if you want a good grade. Definitely do the quizzes they will help if you do good or kill if you ignore them. The class can be a little boring at times but its good. Print out the notes and take them to class to write on.

This class is so hard. Larkin does not lecture well, he reads from the powerpoints that he posts online. if you see him at EVERY office hour you might have a chance of getting an A. Getting a B is a struggle. The class average on the four tests he has given this year is a 49%. So hard, get other Bio181 teacher!

Dr. Larkins is not very interesting but he is helpful at office hours. If you put in a little study time you should not do too badly. There are "Study Sessions" on D2L that come with a power point (I recommend reading the power point) followed by a quiz that must be completed prior to lecture. Usually he covers the study session in one lecture.
