Comment:
It is clear that Millman is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about history. However, his lectures are unorganized, dry, and hard to follow. He doesn't seem to have a lecture plan, but rather stands in front of the class and talks for 3 hours. Great guy, funny at times, but poor lecturer and tough marker.

I wrote my senior thesis under Millman's supervision and it was extremely rewarding. We met roughly once a week, but he was super chill on days when I cancel. He's tough, but will definitely reward you for hard work. Conversations with him are always insightful and thb, he's just a nice person all around!!!

Comment:
The class itself is great, but I found Millman's section to be dry and boring. He did not make the Crusades fun at all and I had to fight to stay awake every class. Don't skip though - his powerpoints suck and even though he posts them online, you need to be there to take notes on what he is saying. Good luck.

Very hard to follow along with his train of thought. He seems to ramble on about unimportant details and facts. Although he is a very knowledgeable man and kind at heart, he isn't the best for teaching. Not to mention he assigns a ridiculous amount of readings....

Comment:
Professor Millman is a very pleasant man and generally has a very friendly demeanor regarding students. It is clear he has an impressively vast knowledge of history. However, his lecture style is unorganized and uninspired save for a joke or two he may crack. Don't expect to follow along with major themes or gain a concise understanding of topics.

I am pretty sure Prof Millman knows everything about all history. I recomend doing background readings for this course as some lectures he gives little historic reference and some items went over my head on first go. It seems easy enough to get 75 but a fair bit of extra effort required to get the 85. He responded to my emails within hours.

Prof. Millman is a very knowledgeable professor, he definitely knows his stuff. However, as a professor, he lacks the ability to clearly communicate what he's talking about. Very hard to learn from; his lectures are all over the place, unclear, non-linear, and overall just very confusing. Has made me dislike History.

Prof. Millman was all over the place in his lectures, confusing, and incredibly boring to listen to. Focuses too much on war without much attention to art, culture, society, or anything else. Has discouraged me from taking more history courses in the future.

This man is a fantastic teacher. It took me a while to adapt to his teaching style, however once you do you learn so much from him. He is very passionate about his work and knows pretty much every thing about anything. Take a class of his, seriously!

Is it just me or does Prof. Millman know everything? He is clearly passionate about what he knows and being a Lt. Col. does help when discussing war. I would take this course a million times over. Highly recommend him :)

I can't agree with the previous poster. I've taken this class. His 457 is military history. Its a seminar class. If the poster wished to pursue issues of race she was free to do so. Otherwise, how does she suggest that military history should be taught concentrating on issues of race, ethnicity and gender primarily? Very silly.

Please go back to the army! How can history be taught in this day and age with no attention to race, ethnicity, and gender. No wonder Western has a reputation for being an old boy's club. ugh!

Awesome prof, likely the best most people who take him will have in their academic careers. Hilarious often, humourously borderline inappropriate at times (though not offensive). lots of readings assigned, but skimming is enough to get by in discussions. did i say awesome yet?

Prof Millman is the GREATEST PROF I HAVE EVER HAD. Take this course IFF you 1. really want to be in it and 2. are ready to learn from him. He can teach you so much about this subject - he has a mind like a chinese finger trap. Decent marker, very possible to get over 80%, make sure every submission is up to par, they are weighted fairly equally

Very very smart man. Also a very hard marker. I found he used too many people as examples to illustrate his points and that was often confusing. All and all a good prof, very good sense of humour too.
