Great guy. Very knowledgeable about history in general. Lots of interesting stuff in his lectures. Three book reflection papers. 4-5 pages. Midterm and take home final. Historical review paper 10 pages at the end. No other hwk besides reading. Manageable but not a breeze. Would recommend.

If looking for an upper level history, take somebody else. Eelman's class is more suited for history majors. Class is more in depth and warrants more thought. Average grader. Few assignments. Gives out lots of B's. Not hard but for non-history people their are easier options. As a history major I loved his class. Engaging and knowledgeable lectuer

He teaches a very good introductory level history course. He has a study guide for all of his tests, and his grading is not too hard. However he does have a 10 page research paper on a topic that he picks for you. If you do what the study guides say, then you will get a good grade. Take him if you can.

I had Dr. Eelman for Colonial-Revolutionary History, Westward Movement, The Federal Union & The Civil--4 classes, 4 semesters in a row! I HIGHLY recommend him! However, he gives killer essay exams and has very high expectations for papers. My favorite prof. at Siena!

Had him for Civil War home front. He is an excellent professor. Engaged the students in thought-provoking discussions and I learned a lot from his class, and I normally do nothing in school. He's on sabbatical but will be back soon I think. He comes off as "mean" when threatening papers, but he's not bad with grading. Standard amount of work.

great guy, you really have to do the reading and TAKE NOTES on the reading so you dont forget it. try to read over the summer because you have to spend a couple hours reading per day otherwise. I highly recommend this class, a challenge but well worth it.

One of the best profs ever to be at Siena. A terrific guy who is always there to help you and keeps classes pretty relaxed so you dont feel weird asking a question if something confuses you. Tough grader and expects some participation, but trust me...its worth it. Great guy, a must take.

He is one of the most brilliant educators at Siena. Not only does he "know his stuff", but he knows how to teach it as well. He is warm, engaging, and approachable. The course was packed full of interesting readings, and even more interesting classroom discussion.

Great lecturer, and the material can be very interesting. Dr. Eelman is a great professor, but very demanding, and assigns way too much reading. If you take this class, try to read ahead before you start the semester.

Great professor. Knows a lot, willing to help, makes American History interesting. Grades tough! Be sure to take him and Harrison if you are a History Major because they are the best History professors in the college!

I took him three times because I loved his teaching style. Wants you to be engaged and interested. He's a little on the tough side of grading, but he's extremely fair about it. Do the work, get the grade you deserve. Don't do the work and do poorly.

Not only is he a great guy, he is a great prof. as well. Westward Movement was not only interesting, but fun as well. He even bought us pizza on the last day of class! Just make sure to do the readings and STUDY for the mid-term and final.

Says he's a hard grader but isn't really. Start studying early for the midterm and the final and you'll do well in the class. You have to participate in a debate but it wasn't as bad as I thought.
