Carey is forgetful but really intelligent. I enjoy his lectures (when he's not talking about himself) and his assignments. There are 2 major assignments which were fun, 1 midterm test which is fairly easy if you study, and 2 note taking quiz. Do your work, participate and communicate. He's not very fond of replying back to your emails.

Carey has put my classmates and I down on more than one occasion. I came to college completely sure of what I wanted to do, but having him tell us that we're "wastes of space" and that we "can't do" essentially what we're there to do, really makes me feel terrible about myself. I don't enjoy going to his class at all.

Horrible teacher, taking his class was required for me to graduate and it made me want to switch programs. Too hard of a marker, and does not explain assignments well. Avoid class at all costs.

His classes would be so interesting if he was engaging and would stop talking about himself. He could be a really good teacher if he would stop coming off as so arrogant and cold. I had high hopes for him and his class but I HATE going to his classes. He has so much potential of being such a good teacher and having amazing classes. Too bad.

You'll grow to appreciate Carey. He's a tough cookie and is extremely intimidating but he offers a lot of wisdom. I've definitely learned to appreciate him my second semester. Only thing I dislike is how he can never remember what he assigned & he never replies back to emails or gives us our grades.

He can be pretty intimidating but he is a good person to learn from in the journalism field. He has tons of experience and (usually) relevant stories from his past. Carey relies heavily on the textbook in this course. If you do not do the readings, you will fail.

He's hard to please and is intimidating. He rarely responds to emails. If he does, it usually is at the last minute. He's sarcastic and not a sucker for slackers. If he senses that you don't care, he won't either. He isn't my favorite teacher because he puts people on the spot, which makes everyone tense like he's going to embarrass you.

I have mixed feelings for his teaching style. The tough love thing is good to a certain extent. But teachers should aim to help their students, not leave them behind when they stumble. That's what they're for. My only advice to you is work HARD and hopefully you won't need his help, because he won't give it. If you can keep up, you'll learn a lot.

Amazing Teacher with a heart of gold. He cares for his students its just that he believes in tough love. If you can't see that for yourself than that is really to bad for you. I really enjoyed having him as my media law teacher and I hope to have the privilege again while attending Humber.

His Computer Assisted Reporting class is a complete waste of time, you can learn to use excel and access in an hour using an online tutorial. 20-25 year olds dont need to be taught to use the internet. Talks way to much. Made us buy a 60 dollar textbook that wasnt used once.

I am thankful for the guidance I received throughout my school career from Carey. He is very serious, very stern- but with kids right out of high school, I think you need to be. The word that comes to mind for me is fair. Carey was fair to everyone, didn't play favorites, and was very forthright. Definitely prepares you for the "real world"

This guy like to hear his own voice. His other hobbies are making immposible multiple choice exams (not because they are difficult but because he chooses to use double negatives in sentences to trick you), he also enjoys telling war stories of his journalism hay days, then accuses you of shoddy work because you can't find any pirates.

One needs to remember that while they are in the business of teaching, teaching is not a business.Carey can be arrogant in his interactions with students.I chalk this up to scare tactics and an innate need to distinguish student-teacher boundaries.Listen closely in class, his advice is useful and will benefit you in the cutthroat world of journalism
