STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Dr. Schmidt is very rude and barely taught us anything.

Schmidt takes this class way too seriously. The Arts in Paris sounds like a fun tsem but is the hardest one. I had 3 small spelling errors on my first paper and I got a b+ even though he said the content was great. He expects everyone to be able to pronounce a bunch of words in french and spell them correctly. this is my hardest class and its tsem.

He is pretentious, and your papers have to be perfect. He makes terrible jokes and gets of track easy during lectures. He treats this like a masters course even though it is only a 300 level one. tests are hard too. He'll try to help but it doesn't matter unless your writing skills are already perfect.

This class can be intimidating, but i believe it is possible to pass. I don't understand why writing is emphasized greatly in this course because it takes away from the history. With other classes, it is nearly impossible to find time to work on the papers and to prepare for the lectures each week.

This class is a challenge because of everything that is crammed into it, but that does not mean it is impossible. Dr. Schmidt's WILL expect you to be a responsible and focused student - as every college professor should. You will learn what it takes to succeed in difficult courses and what it takes to think and learn at a college level.

The class is very difficult but Dr Schmidt really helps you along the way. I met with him in office hours at least 5 times over the semester and every time, he gave me a lot of help with the paper and the tests. Pay close attention in class, he loves to say something once that seems random but it ends up on the exam. Study and dont BS Papers.

Be prepared for him to tell stories glorifying himself for atleast half of the class. He loves to intimidate and I don't think he understands how full of himself he often sounds. He will temporarily steal your soul for a semester. Do the work; get on with your life.

Very time consuming. Take notes on everything he says and go over them on a regular basis. Saving studying for the night before is NOT an option. Term paper is very long - start working on it ahead of time and make appointments to review it with him. Office visits definitely help. Hard work = good grade.

Perhaps, one of the best music professors I have ever had- yes, his classes are challenging and he expects a great deal out of his students (duh, it's COLLEGE!). This Music Dept. definitely has some bitter & pitiful faculty/staff but Dr. Schmidt helps make the Dept. credible, challenging, and RESPECTABLE...and this is coming from a voice major!

I thought it'd be OK, that people just didn't understand that he was strict. Now I get it -- he isn't clear, & can be plain mean sometimes. The tests themselves are doable if you study well; I'd recommend taking lots of notes in class (& READING). Follow instructions to the letter, tread carefully, & keep your fingers crossed.

Not a good professor! The tests are very long and you must know everything for them, he will not let you forget about everything he has done. He goes off on tangents, realizes and then just keeps the lecture going. Extremely boring, bring a laptop. He is bias towards students during class. Picks on students for not using correct terms. Good luck.

Look people...if you don't do well in this class, it's because you're sinfully lazy. It may be hard, but it's a 3 credit, 300 level class and he treats it as such. Meet with him about your papers and study the reviews - you will pass if you do. He makes it pretty easy to get an A if you're willing to put the effort forth.

This guy is a complete doofus. He makes lame jokes in between THOUSANDS of notes. The tests are long and pretty much impossible if you haven't memorized all of the notes. Tells tons of stories, try not to fall asleep. WE DON'T CARE THAT YOU WENT TO HARVARD! Avoid unless absolutely necessary.

This was the worse class I have taken during my undergraduate studies!! He makes the class much harder than needed. He pretends to care about students but really you to kiss his a**. I overheard him telling someone he does not care about his students!! Gives too much work, 3papers,3test(2parts, listening/written), plus 2 grammar test, readings +...

start studying for tests a week in advance. you take like three pages of detailed notes every day of the semester, and then he tests you on every single thing. he's very knowledgable and well traveled...but he'll let you know it...he's always going off on tangents about famous persons he's met, and he laughs at his own jokes

He has a projector that he puts notes up on and he takes them away before you finish writing everything down. Then when you ask to put them back he says "we already passed that". He is not understanding at all and he talks about himself the whole time and how he knows every musician and how he went to Harvard. AVOID!

His class is all about taking notes. I find myself constantly spacing out and never entertained. I think mostly everything about this class is unneccessary. He is a nice man who knows what he's talking about, but he doesn't try and make it more involving for the students. If you have a musical background that helps. Two concerts are required.

I've been in the class a little over a month and I'm enjoying it so far. I thought I did awful on the first exam but I ended up with a B. His tests have 150 questions on them BUT he curves which helps a lot! He is a little corny and he sometimes talks about things that have little to do with music. Overall, he's a pretty nice man and a fair teacher

he makes the class so much more difficult than it has to be. you have to kiss his a** just to get a decent grade. do everything as he says and don't try to think for yourself. let him read all your papers and start studying like 3 days before the test. if you can avoid taking him definately do it.
