Comment:
Heim is a great professor for a difficult class in subject matter. She held review sessions before all her exams and was very focused throughout lecture to make sure everyone understood the material. She is very sweet and wants all her students to do well. The exams are hard but not impossible if you put in effort.

Comment:
To say that prof. Heim is merely erudite would be an egregious understatement of adjective: She is a top-of-the-line learned professor in the subject matter, and not only deposits world-class knowledge, she understands that learning is an interactive dynamic between teacher and pupil.

If you can take a course with Professor Heim, do it. She is by far the most intelligent professor in the Economics department. Very thorough in class and makes sure you understand the material well.

Comment:
Prof. Heim's class was intense for sure, but very enjoyable. She came to class interested in the material, and did her best to encourage any sort of discussion about the subject matter. Her lectures were never dry. She assigns a lot of readings, and if you don't do them, you shouldn't expect to do well. If you keep up, the class is a breeze.

Professor Heim outlines all the material you will need for the exams in class and gives you time to write all of it down. That being said you have to study for exams. Do the short writing assignments because it's an easy 20% and she let's you miss two without penalty. I felt as though I learned a lot more in this class than most.

Carol Heim is one of the best professors I've ever had. She wants you to do well and expects you to study. If you follow what she says, you will get an A. You must write down everything she writes on the board. It will be basically verbatim on the exam. You have to keep up with readings and write a 2 page paper every week. Other than that, no hw.

This professor does not care about her students. She expects them to work exactly how she worked when she was in college. Not everyone has the same learning abilities and she simply does not care. I went to office many times and she made me feel small a a person for not processing as fast she does. I will never take a class with her again.

She is very brilliant, but I think she only cares about her paycheck. She gives no support, guidance, study sessions, study guides, practice exams, or ANY type of support for exams. Exams are 80% of your grade and there is so much content to take in inside and outside of class. If you go to office hours she will only help with specific questions.

I had her in Fall 2012. She's outstanding. Don't fall behind; the material is hard and only interesting if you like Econ and/or public policy, but she's willing to help during office hours. She might be my favorite teacher I've had at UMass, honestly.

Well-organized, nice, knowledgeable. She takes students seriously, expects a lot but gives a lot! Do not hesitate to take a class with her, I wasn't so interested in the topic but she made it interesting and fostered a good dynamic n class. I wish I could take more classes with her!

Chalkboard-style lecturing with written outline and key information. Exceptional annotator on papers, will help you improve historical writing style. Difficult exams, but only if you do not study. Very interested in material and does best to convey that to students. I loved Econ 362.

The class is difficult; you must do all the readings, take good notes and come to class prepared in order to understand the lecture. You have to put in a lot of time studying for exams. She is always there to help. You have to work hard, but she is upfront about this from day one. You will learn more in this class than in most.

She likes student going to class and she tries hard to stimulate the class, but FAILS at it! Class notes are very important. However, exams are impossible to get a high score in since your answer will NEVER be enough! She cannot multitask and cannot bare students to ask questions while she is talking since it will INTERRUPT her thoughts.

this professor is absolutely horrible. As a person she is great and very nice, but her teaching methods are absolutely terrible. If I had to describe it, her teaching methods are stuck in the past, and she also does not use the small class dynamic well, she just lectures (in a boring way I might add). Avoid her.

she's tough and useless. When it comes to actually helping students for any purpose she is there and will see you, but won't really help. Also, specifically about the exams, the material that you will be tested on is very gray and the tests are more of "gotcha" tests than anything, meant to catch you in little mistakes.

She really is awesome - nice, very clear and organized. There is no gray area with notes/exam content, she puts everything on the board. Sometimes the material is overwhelming, but she does everything to help you understand. You have to go to class, and you should go to office hours.

The subject matter is often dull, but she is great. Very helpful, and has a sweet, self-deprecating sense of humor. Yes, she is a tough grader, but you can still do well. Focus on the details in her course, and enjoy the small class size.
