Professor Sheriff is by far the absolute best history professor I've had at William & Mary. You really have to understand and wrestle with the readings to do well, but her lectures are so engaging. It's obvious that she cares about each of her students individually, and she is so accessible during office hours. I can't recommend her class enough!

Dr. Sheriff is an incredible professor and mentor whom truly cares about her students. She has shaped, and continues to shape, my future and I would not be where I am in my career without her guidance. She is an invaluable asset and if you have the chance to take any of her courses, I recommend you do so. "Take the professor, not the course".

Too much reading and often times unclear lectures. Classes can be really dry sometimes. She gives detailed feedback for assignments tho. Not an interesting class to have during lunch hour.

Sheriff can be a tough grader on papers, but her feedback is solid and will make you a better writer (make sure you put a lot of work into the analytical essay). She encourages you to think critically and build nuanced perspectives, and her lectures are engaging and interesting. There's a lot of reading, but you'll learn a lot. She's a great prof.

Best professor I've had at W&M. Incredibly enthusiastic about the material and extremely helpful. 3 take home essays and discussion questions. Her lectures are interesting, clear, and really well structured. Gives great feedback on papers and discussion questions and grades quickly. Definitely taking another class with her.

Lectures are filled with information and very clear. Class can occasionally get dry, but you'll learn a lot. Readings are manageable. No in-class exams, just take home essays. Essays require a lot of thoughtwork, but expectations are clear and if you put in the effort you'll get a good grade. Prof. Sheriff very nice and available to students.

She's not an easy professor, but let's be serious- you didn't come to William and Mary to breeze through classes. If you did, just go ahead and move to some muckhole like Charlottesville. Prof. Sheriff gives crystal expectations, ample office hours, and is a wonderfully kind and helpful person. She gives interesting lectures to boot!

Professor Sheriff is a shining beacon of the W&M History Department. Her in-class discussions are thoughtful and compelling, while all readings are carefully chosen to parallel the structure of the class. She is a very kind woman who will be eager to help anyone who approaches her. She grades fairly, yet be prepared to make her class a priority.

Professor Sheriff is a fantastic lecturer! On top of her wealth of knowledge, she ably includes her students in thoughtful, enriching discussion. Reading is a much, but the amount is manageable and her selections are interesting! She expects a lot from you on papers and exams, but she's understanding and generous in her grading! TAKE HER CLASS!

She is one of my favorite history professors! She picks really interesting articles to read and is great at facilitating discussion. Come to class, it really helps on the tests. She is very willing to help out with papers or if you go office hours. She is really interesting and sweet. The essays require quite a bit of work, but the class is great!

Professor Sheriff is hands down one of my favorite in the department. Her Civil War Era course was amazing - yes, there is a good amount of work but she grades fairly and is extremely helpful in her feedback. She is a dynamic lecturer and returns papers with inhuman speed! You should DEFINITELY take one of her courses!!!

Professor Sheriff is amazing. I hate history, and she made the class probably the most interesting a person can make history for me. She is very helpful during class and office hours. This is probably my favorite class I have taken here.

I went into her Antebellum America class absolutely dreading it, but I left wanting to take the continuation class. She is very engaging, and always learns everybody's name. There is work involved, but it's worth it--the more you put in, the more you get out--and she's always willing to help. I'd recommend her to anybody taking a history class.

Wonderful professor. You have to work hard in her classes, but its definitely worth it. I learned more in her classes than in any other history classes I've taken at WM--and since I'm a history major, I've taken more than a few.

Not much to say. She knows her stuff and she's interesting. Not the best professor, but far from the worst. I wish she were a tad more engaging, but overall she doesn't put me to sleep. There's a lot of reading and a good amount of writing.
