Comment:
If you want a prof who will do nothing but praise you, Dr. Hunter isn't like that. She will tell you things for what they are. If you work hard, you will get a good mark. Period. She isn't a tough marker, she just isn't your HS teacher who gives marks for basically anything. She's easy to connect with, just dont waste her time.

Catherine is brilliant. But here's the thing: you need to drop your ego at the door. Don't go into a class with her expecting to impress her and be liked and fluffed up. She won't do it, and that's because she's a bawse, and because she respects you. Take her feedback with grace and humility, and she will support you to no end.

Lectures were interesting. She had unique and intriguing takes on the assigned texts. I was a bit intimidated by the "tough grader" remarks on this page, but now that I've taken a class with Hunter I can assure that she's actually pretty fair. If you get a bad mark from her you probably didn't do a good job.

Found her lectures interesting and relevent. She often repeated what happened in the readings, which was annoying at first until I studied for the exam--those notes were super helpful when having to keep track of all the material! Found her a bit rude at times, but otherwise her class was decent.

Singly the worst professor I've had. Says the word 'right' about twice every minute. Extremely rude and disrespectful to students during office hours. Very narrow-minded. When I went to her office to improve on my assignment she was immediately threatened and insulted and assumed I was there to get an A+. If you like writing, avoid this person

Catherine is a great teacher (pardon my colloquiums). If you want to learn to write, take this course, put the time into it, and go see her at office hours. Give up your ego and do what she tells you. Yeah, she can cut your work apart in seconds, but it's because she is brilliant. Take the criticism and grow from it.

Worst Prof I have ever had. I've always been passionate about writing, but one semester with her, and I honestly never want to write again. Extremely negative, often makes rude remarks or outright insults students. Very hard grader. That being said, she can give valuable feedback, but she'll throw insults in with the good any chance she gets.

Great course, great professor. She is a fair marker, and I'm pretty sure she puts some consideration into the effort put into the work handed in. Would take any other course she teaches.

Extremely difficult to figure out if she hates you or likes you. Interesting course content but an extremely hard marker considering the content and assignments that are possible. Overall I'd say stay away from this class and this prof.

Extremely close-minded. Looks down her nose at you, as if she is better than you. Instead of being helpful, she looks at you like you're a fool for asking. Rude comments were made to the first few people who finished her exam. As well, her classes simply consisted of her telling us what happened in the books we read. Yes... we read the books.

She's an excellent teach, knows a lot, and has a lot of experience. If you stay communicative, you will do very well. Her classes are hard but its meant to develop you. If you take her advice you will succeed in class. Can pick favorites at times. Wonderful lady.

Realised early on this was going to be bad. Wasted class time talking about soap operas, and mentioning the books she wrote. Views everything through feminist lenses, so be ready to be irritated with her closed-mindedness.

Such a boring class. Took English 1 expecting to learn something new and that's a no. She picks favourites and then refuses to talk to anyone else in the class. I basically didn't exist so I stopped showing up. She is a raging feminist so cater to that. Oh, she gives you one mark the whole year. It might fluctuate 1-2% but that will be your mark

You can definitely afford to skip classes every now and then. She marks fairly on essays and there aren't too many books to read. Ask her for advice and you'll do well. Hunter's funny and her classes go by fairly quickly.

I agree with the last reviewer. She is a very unhappy woman who makes herself feel better by insulting her students. More compassion and less bitterness would make this a better course.

Worst Prof. EVER. her marking is EXTREMLY subjective based on her own personal - bias opinions towards the student. I went for help almost every office hour and she spent most of the time insulting me. NO matter how hard you try, she will allow you to get ahead.

She taught me some useful things about being a writer, but in general, I wish that I had taken creative writing with David Bergin rather that wasting my time with someone who has never succeeded as a writer and hates the world for it.
