Dr. Derksen is extremely friendly and always wants to help you get the best grade possible. She can be a tough marker, but definitely gives you the grade you deserve. Her pop quizzes are always on the assigned readings, and she gives very clear instructions on what she's looking for in all of your assignments.

she had a probelm with clarity. Very difficult to undderstand exactly what she wanted . Exams was extremely difficult considering time was not enough to help you think through your answers.

Dr Derksen is such a hard marker and if you are looking to get a good mark in this class, I suggest you to take it with another teacher. Her lectures are very boring and not engaging at all. I believe about 30% of the class actually received and A.

She is a great professor and very helpful. She seems to be a bit of a femisnist though since ever reading we did seemed to involve womens rights in some form or another

Good prof - I feel bad for he being burdened with a course that she's not really interested in teaching. Extremely effective in teaching academic writing; my writing really improved after the course. Willing to help you outside class if you just simply ask. Very personable and tries her best to know all her students by name. Highly recommended.

A truly wonderful prof. She was clear about her expectations, and while some of the grammar was tedious, it was an easy grade-booster. Loved this course, and the marking was very fair. Wonderful selection of literature studied.

I thoroughly enjoyed her class. She was very clear with her explanations and very engaging. She made attending class enjoyable because she actually includes her students in class discussions and made it very interactive in a nonstressful environment.

Quite an annoying prof, cares waaay to much about grammar. You will learn grammatical rules you learned in grade 9, and do way too many comma placement worksheets. Also picks favourites, and bases grade on attendance! Could have liked the course were it not for this prof, though I did always get at least a B, so there's something I guess.

She is not the best by any means. She is VERY erratic in her marking. She also cares way too much about grammar. I, as much as the next person, understand the importance of grammar. However, this class feels like a grade 11 class. Not recommended but if you have to choose, she's not the WORST choice.

She was great! Her enthusiasm and passion for the material she taught made the class never engaging. She encouraged and maintained class discussion and listened to and considered all students' input. Her feedback on papers and assignments was very helpful and her grading was fair but slightly easy as I got several B+ and A's. Loved this prof!

I thought Celeste was great. Really dreaded 146 going into it. But it became one of my favorite classes, largely due to this prof. Definitely eccentric, but in a good way. Loves what she teaches. All you have to do is do the readings and put an effort in the discussions. Had an open mind to whatever people said, as long as they could back it up.

Took Prof. Derksen's 135 & 146 classes. Hard marker! In 135 class moodle journals were good, and in 146 the in class assignments were good, but in both classes the take home material was marked alot harder! If you really like english I'm sure you'd get a good mark, but if English isn't your strong subject it probably will be difficult!

Hardest marker ever! I used to receive A's in English and I am at a B- or C+ because of her. So picky about grammar and doesn't mark according to content. Her final is also very hard and she is anal about spelling the author's name correctly. I reccommend not taking her class.

Very hard marker. Marks even harder if you don't attend class. I would not recommend her, although she was very enthusiastic.
