Comment:

His TV Criticism class is extremely hard and lives up to its "writing intensive" name. He is a very tough grader - not a class you can coast through. But he is always willing to help and his comments on papers are helpful. The class itself is fun - lots of discussion about TV and TV shows. Wish he wasn't such a hard grader but he's a good prof.

Wld HIGHLY rec. for the screenwriting class. Nice&helpful, easy&fun class if do the work- write short film scripts. Textbook an easy read &interesting. Only a few SHORT multiple choice quizzes.Also read Good Will Hunting. Use CELTX software (free).Only kinda boring part peer-reviewing scripts.

You will both love him and hate him. He is very friendly and a great teacher. However, he is very "by the book" and grades extremely harshly. No matter how smart the class is, he will curve to let only 2-3 get an A and make someone fail(cause that's the rules!) Tons of hard work, it is so ridiculous. You will do A work and still get a B-

Dell is by no means a good teacher. He bases any help he gives on whether he likes you or not. His assignments aren't helpful to learning criticism because if we were going to understand the ins/outs of criticizing something, it would be done in class. Just the same, none of his dumb, hour long stories have to do with learning any trade. Horrible.

Assigns ALOT of work..gives Chapter Summaries/Reaction Papers/Long Papers like its going out of style. However, he is very enjoyable to have and makes it fun. Just be prepared to work your ass off. Don't bother taking if you're not really interested in Film/TV, etc.

I do not know how to describe him. He has given the most work I have ever seen a profsssor give, but he's also the nicest and most helpful professor I have encountered at MU. Screenwriting can be an easy A, but stay away from TV Criticism at all costs...not as fun as it sounds. 2 7-page papers and a 12-pager.
