My writing got worse after taking his class. He makes you learn and write to his preference, not what you actually need to know for other classes. For instance, I learned in my 300 level international research class not to use "I" under any circumstances. His research paper encouraged us to do so...I thought he was useless and condescending

Gives extremely detailed feedback for papers. However, he is a very hard grader. He also gives papers due right before midterms and finals and he gives an actual midterm and final exam for a writing class. He is also very boring and tries to make a lot of jokes though he is not funny at all. He is one of the hardest WRTG 100 professors.

Prof Cox is one of my favorite professors at AU. For 106, theres only 2 papers in the class and he will give you great feedback to make your writing stronger. They are researched based and you can choose what ever topic that interests you. Also great ready for his great metaphors:) they make the class interesting and memorable.

Prof Cox's class challenged my ability as a writer, but the types of papers we wrote were unique and always interesting. Unfortunately, there's only two main papers: midterm and final. I found myself struggling to get my grade up after not doing so well on the first paper. However, he gives great feedback and is very willing to help.

Very tough grader, but gives assignments back with lots of comments and in a timely manner. Gives assignments with very limited time to complete. Writing department at AU is subpar, but Cox is on the better half. Last paper for 106 is 20 pages without works cited, but is interesting paper and topic is your choice. Prof is also very organized

An extremely tough grader. He doesn't tend to give out A's on writing assignments, so just try to do well in participation, homework, and the midterm/final. He will teach you how to write, however, and you'll become a better writer because of his class.

He's the best teacher I've had. Unlike myprevious writing professors, he gives honest feedback that really helped me grow as a writer. He's a fair grader & is very passionate about what he does. The class is hard, there's a lot of work that's required of the student. However, if you email him or go to office hours, he's a huge help. 10/10 recommend

I really liked Prof Cox, but I wasn't so hot on this class. I guess the goal of it is to prepare you for academia, so becoming purely a better writer takes a back seat to learning how to do a research project. Those are no fun. Still, if you're going into a research field, I'm sure this class pays dividends. For someone who's not, it's a drag.

What no one seems to realize is that any good freshman comp prof is going to be a tough grader. It's college, get used to it. Heard he's done some weird stuff in his office hours, but in class he was fine. The final assignment of the course was the most fun I've ever had writing a paper. Don't worry about your grade, just focus on learning.

Prof Cox was my hardest professor this term (I took 7 classes) and it was honestly ridiculous. I worked with two of my old English teachers to get good grades on my papers and couldn't crack higher than a B on a paper. His project assignment sheets are always 3-6 pages of crazy requirements. I learned a lot about argument writing but it was insane.

Professor Cox was monotonous, fairly straightforward, and willing to listen. Cox often tried to teach through innovative techniques which often felt excessive or irrelevant. For the most part, you get what you put into it when it comes to Cox's class, although learning anything significant in this class is an uphill battle.

This professor was extremely difficult and did not have any empathy for his students. I used to credit myself on being a great writer, and this class made my confidence in my writing skills go down significantly. Also, he didn't seem to care much about the success of his students in this class.

I decided to take his College Writing Seminar with a video game theme and I did not regret it. He is very clear and helpful, but don't expect an easy A. He expects you to work for your grade.

The only thing I learned in this class was how to tailor my writing to exactly what he wanted. Not one person in our class got an A on the final paper, and a good portion of us worked very hard. It was a very disappointing class. Unless you're writing exactly what he wants, you won't get an A.

He gets a bad rep because of his in-class persona, but Cox truly is a nice guy who genuinely cares about his students. He does not 'give' A's - but you can get one if you work for it.

Although it's true that Cox's lit class is a lot more rigorous than others, it's worth it. I learned how to write in this class, and that's something that I will always be able to use. Cox is tough but only because he knows that his students have the potential to be great writers. If you give your best effort, he will help you to succeed.

Although the class was hard I got a lot out of it. He forces you to think and write well. He expects a lot from you but gives you the resources to do so. you have a lot of reading, but a doable amount. I learned a lot. Its not going to be an easy class but if your looking to be productive and learn, take his class.
