There's A LOT of reading. Regardless, this class was eye-opening, and Professor Rzepka is great: he puts aside a lot of time for students to meet with him, he answers emails very promptly, and he really just wants to help you do well! He's really encouraging and just a joy. Made my summer a tad brighter!

Skillful mix of lecture and discussion, which makes class engaging and tests easy if you study. Tough when it comes to papers, but gives so much feedback that you're bound to improve. Participate--it's definitely worth it. Made me love poetry more than prose at this point.

I took his Detective Fiction class last semester; he literally wrote the textbook, so he knows his stuff. However, he's hilarious in class and puts on the most ridiculous voices. There's a lot of reading, but it's not particularly heavy stuff -- it'll go by quickly. Tests were fair. A really great professor, and he gives lots of feedback.

I really loved Rzepka. I took Romanticism with him as a sophomore and I felt really nervous after hearing he really knows his stuff, but I am so glad i took his class! His lectures were always well prepared, engaging, and thoughtful, and really helped us engage with the text. He's also quick to put some pop culture references in. Recommend!!!

Difficult grader, but more than willing to meet you in office hours, even plan around your schedule. Lectures are enjoyable and interesting, finds a suitable balance between his discussion points and our own. I recommend this professor, but expect difficult grading with lots of feedback.

Rzepka is a kind, thoughtful, committed and helpful professor who inspired me to keep up with the heavy reading and writing load in this class. Students wishing not to read books should avoid his class and, perhaps, every class at BU. High marks to Rzepka.

I love this man. Yes, the class is a lot of reading, but it's all interesting and if you can't keep up, you shouldn't be in the class. I was took two other EN courses with this one and kept up with it fine. Tests are very fair, and discussions are :)

Professor Rzepka is great. The reading list is not fun (Major Authors - Homer, Dante, Virgil, etc) but he makes it better. Heaving reading load but light on the writing. There are 5 papers - 3 2-3 pages, 1 4-5 pages. He gives you a study guide for the midterm and final - if you know everything on it, you WILL get an 100. I recommend his class!

This class requires a TON of reading, to the point where you can't keep up. The subject is interesting, but the lectures are pretty dull. Prof. Rzepka is nice and funny, but ultimately, the class drags on. Wouldn't recomend unless you really like reading (at least one book a week).

Awesome Professor, Rzepka is a really cool and funny guy. Assigns a lot of reading but doesnt really expect you to have it completely done anyways. Made Greek and Roman Literature really interesting and only had a measly 4 papers, 3 (2-3) pages and a (4-5) page final. I loved the guy. Take his class!

By far the worst professor I've ever had. An absurd amount of reading is assigned. His lectures are boring, uninspiring, and largely irrelevant. His exams are impossible and ask questions that are far too specific considering the amount of material you're being tested on. His grading curve is insane & not in a good way. Avoid like the plague.

He is a great teacher and all-around interesting man. Occasionally his lectures get a bit tedious. But, given the subject matter (mostly epic poetry and some theatre,) that is ok. He is very straightforward about how he grades essays and is very helpful in office hours. I recommend this class

My biggest mistake in college was taking his class. Assignments are hard - 2 papers, 5 short response papers. Deducts a letter grade for every unexcused absence. Required me to write an additional book summary for missing 2 classes due to job interviews. I thought reading detective books would be fun, but the book selection is sub par.

AWESOME professor. He knows basically everything and his lectures were rarely boring. Participate in his class and he'll love you. His genuine love for the subject is apparent and he really intelligent. He made me love epic poems (which is saying a lot). He is one of the best teachers i have ever had

This was the best class I've ever taken in college. The selection and mastery of the professor was incredibly helpful to spawn my interest in the topic and english as a major overall. Incredibly helpful and knowledgable on the topic. Fun to go see in office hours and discuss the topic. If you have the option to take any of his classes, do so.

Rzepka is amazing! His assignments are easy (only 4 papers) and the two tests are a snap if you pay attention in lecture. He draws you in to the books (even though some are boring). Sometimes I just get hypnotized listening to him. He really makes you think. Definietly take him for EN 220.

One of the best profs at BU. Det. fiction is a great class, and this is coming from a non-english major. Rzepka is great at getting the class involved, always open to new ideas/interpretations of the readings. If you have the chance, take this class!
