He is a really nice professor! He goes out of his way to make sure that you will pass the class. During class, he wasn't boring. I made multiple appointments with him throughout the semester and every single one was extremely helpful. I highly recommend Professor Schwertman if any of you struggle with English.

I absolutely enjoyed my time in this professor's class! Lectures are usually based on the homework assignments, which is absolutely necessary to pass his class. At times the homework can be a bit overwhelming. He is tough grader but he's fair about it and does give you the grade you deserve. You have to work to get a good grade. Effort is required

Aside from the fact that he takes soooo long to give work back he's not that bad. I got an A in his class by doing the work. If you do the work you will be just fine. The work really isn't that bad and I'm pretty lazy. Be prepared to write essays (in class and take home) and annotate/ read short stories and poems.

Took this class because i had to to graduate. If you don't have time to read at least 3 stories a night don't take this class. He explains on the first day he will only give one paper a week but changes it a few weeks into the class. He requires a paper due every class. He also doesn't cover his mouth when he coughs and starts class 5 minutes early

He is a great professor. However, I found that his class assignments (reading wise) took away from all my other classes. I wouldn't suggest taking him for a literature class while you are taking other important classes. With the amount of work he gives, you won't really find time to dedicate to your other classes.

Prof. Schwertman can be whatever you make him to be. If you're the type of student who expects to show up and pass without giving effort you'll fail. With that said if you take advantage of his eagerness to help then he's very clear on what you need to do to improve. Can be nit-picky on essays but that's what an English prof. is supposed to do.

Definitely not the greatest professor but definitely not the worst. He is very organized and thorough, but he doesn't have the best personality. He expects everyone to have the same interest as he does for the lessons he teaches.

took him for English . at first the class seemed very easy but I was wrong . he basically failed him without warning . He told me I was on track for passing then surprised me with a bad grade . also he is confusing when it comes to giving advice on how to better your assignments . don't take this class !

Horrible class. Took him for mythology because I needed an English credit and he is by far the worst professor at Nassau. Expect tons of homework (more than any other course) if you care about your GPA don't take him!! He also hates when you leave the room and lectures are extremely boring.

Way too much work for an lower level course. Have to read many chapters and stories every class as homework and leaves little time for other courses or life in general. Nice guy but don't recommend as a course.

Mythology is a ridiculous amount of work. He gives homework readings (several stories) and a page single spaced assignment every single night. He grades them very closely and expects serious analysis and brilliant ideas. If not he is quick to give a no credit- even if you did the work. (& I'm pretty smart) If you care about your GPA don't take him.

DonĂ¢€™t take him to learn, but an easy A. He goes over myths most already knew and is bad at explaining stuff. We watched movies-like Rango-as hero quest examples instead of reading Greek or Norse myths. Class was basically redoing HW. He asks 4 questions for HWs and there are 2 papers where you write your own stories.

He is constantly repeating the same theme/topic/subject for days. Doesn't like when students go to the bathroom or leave the room. He will kick you out of class and give you an absence if you don't have an assignment or book with you (that was needed). He is a big grammar fanatic. I wouldn't recommend taking his class, its very boring!!!

You will have your work cut out for you - not a "flyby" course. That said, Prof. Schwertman is extremely knowledgeable & holds a well of information. His myth/folklore class was one of my favs! Advice: Prepare for in-depth weekly reading/writing HW assignments which are weighted heavily for your overall grade. 2 papers/no in-class exams.
