He seems like a nice guy but he doesn't know how to teach. He goes on tons of rants and doesn't know how to stick to a topic. The paper he assigns in this class is absolutely ridiculous, he gives no direction. He made me really dislike archaeology.

Very passionate prof who regularly gets off track. I would love to listen to his stories, he is an experienced field archaeologist, but would at least like his stories to relate to class material. What it was like to live and work in Israel? Cool. How your dogs are doing? Not so cool. Study what he talks most about in class. (Ur, Um Dabigiyah)

Super nice guy, but a confusing prof. He teaches it with his wife Laura its quite cute. She keeps him on track. As a student athlete they were very helpful and understanding. His tests suck and are confusing he will have the right answer then other answers that could also be right and then he will do a b c , both a and c and both c and a.

In essence you take 2 classes. One is your textbook the other is the class lectures. Very hard to take notes during lectures. He uses multiple answers on the tests by formulating like this: a. some answer; b. some other answer; c. some other answer; d. a & b; e. a & c; f. b & c; Really? Introductory course? Makes students hate archaeology...

Very Passionate about Archaeology but a terrible Prof overall. Stories blend together and are frequently off topic. and then tests on things he has not yet taught. if you want a challenge then he is for you otherwise avoid!

Terrible teacher annoying voice, I read the textbook to study since his notes are useless. He made us do a paper that he explained one way than changed it a day before it was due. There was no information on the topic. Gets off topic talking about his dogs. 0/10 do not recommend.

Super easy material, but he did not teach them properly . I have learned more from wikipedia rather than the suggested text book/lectures. He keeps the average down by withhelding information about the tests, not by making the tests more challenging. He is a very nice person though.

Excellent Prof. He is truly passionate about Archaeology and for teaching. He shares stories about his time in the field not just because he easily digresses, which he does, ask him about politics sometime, but is to share with his students some of the aspects of life for an archaeologist. By the way, this book is dense and a tough read.

An interesting prof. His classes alternate between really interesting and really boring. Attending class is a must for a good mark as his notes are mostly outlines. Reading the texts and doing the CD program is also necessary as there are many test questions on them. Overall an enjoyable class, though easy to underestimate.

Often tells off-topic stories, but he's very entertaining. He really knows his stuff and is always willing to help you. Make sure to read the assigned texts, he'll never talk about them in class, but they'll be on the test!

The course is mildly interesting. Foley told some entertaining stories sometimes. He's a good prof, but what he lectures doesn't have much to do with the texts. He goes over A LOT of pottery, which is super boring. The midterms and final weren't hard, just pay attention to details and know the bigger picture and they should be easy enough.

Worst class ever 21 people have already dropped it out of like 60-80 way too HARD!!!! Nothing to do with Egypt so don't be fooled into taking it, and if your registered in it already get out while you still can.

Very frustrating. Daily interruptions with irrelevant stories about his sons. Learned very little about Middle Eastern cultures and civilizations but lots about archaeological processes and field work. Which is ok if that's what you want. Why have an interactive cd about Neanderthal Archaeology in France when the focus is Classical Middle East?

He's a great prof who is very passionate about his field of study. He does ramble a bit but his stories are all funny and interesting. Very approachable professor who is very interested in helping you understand the material but will also answer your questions about the real world. Read the texts. Go to class - take notes. Everything is fair game!
