Lehrich is one of those professors that is likely to intimidate you at first - because of his personality - but he is honestly one of those hidden gems at BU. He knows so much about religion and different cultures. Quick note: DO NOT PURCHASE THE TEXTBOOKS. They are available at the public library all the time, so that'll save you about 100 bucks!

He was pretty good, very interesting material. If I had tried a little harder on the papers I would have gotten an A in the class. Overall, Magic Science and Religion was really interesting and didn't have a heavy workload. We never used the books though.

He moves very quickly in class to attempt to cover a lot of material. Really knows his stuff when it comes to magic and religion. Engaging lecturer. Grading can be tricky as the class I had was a large lecture. Difficult to grasp what he was looking for. Relies heavily on TAs do to class sizes.

I really enjoyed Lehrich's Science, Magic, Religion course. He is super knowledgeable and very engaging. A lot of the information was challenging, but if you take good notes in lecture, you'll do fine on the midterm/final. There isn't a lot of work in the class, but I still feel like I learned a ton!

Professor Lehrich is definitely my favorite so far. His lectures are usually interesting and easy to follow, and he likes to throw in funny comments you wouldn't expect from an academic. I never did the reading and I still managed to get an A on the midterm. Easy assignments, just use notes for tests and you'll be fine.

Professor Lehrich is excellent. His class made me declare as a Religion major. This class was very interesting, especially the way he presented the material. If you pay attention in lecture and do well on the papers you should be fine. Take this class for your humanities requirement or if you like learning about religion, it is great.

Great lecturer, really smart guy. Very knowledgeable about religion, impressively so. Tests were pretty fair, lots of essays to write and books to read. The only downfall was that his essay instructions handouts used huge vocab and it was hard to know what he was asking for, but with a little work good grades are possible!

I'm a journalism major, and "Magic, Science, and Religion" counts towards a science requirement. This class was AWESOME. Really interesting material, almost all of it completely new to me. You're screwed if you don't attend lecture, and the readings don't make sense. He's a great lecturer though! Just study your notes before the midterm.

This class was thoroughly interesting. He's extremely knowledgeable on the subject and is an excellent lecturer, both of which outweigh his tendency to sound pretentious at times. Essays are based on readings, which are discussed in each class. In fact, so thoroughly discussed that it was possible to forgo readings and still write a decent essay.

Prof. Lehrich is a magnificent orator and presents lectures like no other professor that I have had. As he lectures he draws you in and makes you agree with his points only to destroy your newfound opinions with valid counter-arguments. Great professor!!

I don't understand how people say he's a fair grader when he expressly states that he only gives out A's once in a while or on a "rare occasion." that said, yes he's intelligent, and a good writer, but not extraordinary. He aims to boost his image. don't be fooled.

Do NOT take this class. The class has more to do with the development of structural anthropology than any preconceived notions you might have of religion. One word to describe the class? Painful. The topics for the essays and the readings are all dry and dull. You can come out of the class learning a lot about something new, but not a GPA booster.

I started out the semester HATING this class. By the end, I developed such an apprecation and respect for Professor Lehrich. He is so freakin smart! This course will probably be the hardest class you have ever taken if you have no interest or previous background in religion or anthropology. Definately a challenge, but so worth it in the end!

Lehrich is a genius and his comments are very critical. Thus, he has very high expectations which causes a lot of stress and disappointment. The subject matter was very different from what I expected, and my lack of interest made the semester very tedious, although he was very good at creating deep and interesting in-class discussions.

I went into this class with almost no interest in religious studies, but now I'm considering a religion minor just to take more classes from Lehrich. He's a truly awesome, intelligent, incredibly helpful teacher. My first paper was completely covered with comments, to the point of unreadability, he just had so many useful things to say.

Very hard grader... not a GPA booster. If you keep up with the readings, the work will be easier and class will go by quicker. Get help with your writing from him or other tutors. Overall, he is a great teacher and a really nice man who tries to help you as much as he can but is still a very strict grader.

Tough grader and lots of reading for the class. You should make sure you are really interested in the topic because he is a smart man and expects a lot. If you are not interested in the topic, classes will go by really slow and you'll lose what hes trying to say. Overall very helpful but very tough in grading papers.
