He is one of the most respected people teaching at Boston University. He's probably the best person in the Core Curriculum He's a fascinating man and his class is super interesting. He is very flexible with papers and gives great feedback. Take his class, you won't regret it.

Sir Christopher Ricks is extraordinary. Go Google him if you haven't already. Then register for his class and spend a semester laughing, learning, and writing papers with great prompts. He had one of the most profound impacts on my time as an undergrad. Also took CC 202 with him. It doesn't matter what the class is: just take it with Ricks.

Comment:
My only criticism of Sir Christopher Ricks is that he very rarely covers the material in class. Instead, he often goes on side-rants, sharing personal philosophies with the class. Anyway, Prof. Ricks is the kind of professor you would have if you went to Hogwarts. Take my advice and take a class with Ricks: he loves us and we love him.

I promise that you will be enthralled by everything Ricks says. One, he's a knight. Two, he's not afraid to get a little bawdy. Three, he knows something about everything but never makes you feel dumb. 1 project for this class with a lot of creative freedom. It may change to a 500 level but will remain pretty similar so don't be afraid.

Reading these comments, I was struck by how often the word "love" came up. I shall be honest (Ricks has that effect on you) and candidly admit that I am not a BU student. He taught me many years ago in England. But the words you use of him today are the same ones we used of him 30 years ago.

To everyone who says they hate the core, it's pretty much based on your discussion professor. So TAKE RICKS! He is... the best. You'll want to do well on the papers not so much because of getting a good grade but to impress him and win his heart over! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH! Taking just one class with him more than redeems the ungodly BU tuition.

The only reason this brilliant prof is willing to stay at BU is because they've given him an ivory tower in the form of the Editorial Institute. One of the most great living critics, do not clutch your sternum while in conversation with him.

Ricks is corporealized awesomeness. Read the literature, have some insights, and you'll do well in the class while enjoying the teaching style. He does have the tendency to go on side-rants, so really READ the material.

Prof. Ricks is a brilliant guy and you have to keep up with him, because he is incredibly quick. He often tells personal stories that sometimes illuminate class discussions. Sometimes they are simply meanderings. However, his sharpness and humor more than make up for any lapses. Gradewise, put your all into your work, and you'll be rewarded. If you

A great, great teacher. You'll be able to tell your grandchildren that you took a class with this man, and they will (should) salivate with envy. Note the direct line of great critics from Eliot to Empson to Leavis to Ricks to you (if you are lucky). Perhaps the greatest wit teaching today.

i love this man. very engaging, interesting, and hilarious. i, also, would listen to him lecture on the dictionary. he is insightful, helpful, and demands a lot in terms of your intellectual effort, but in such a way that you don't mind at all or, rather, enjoy it.

Perhaps the sharpest mind and most eloquent man I have ever met. Taking a class with Professor Ricks is like encountering a lifetime's worth of culture, poetry, and wit. He represents the closest Americans will get to an Oxford education. The best.
