Comment:

I took a Distance Studies course and found her incredibly disagreeable and rude. I ended up dropping the class after a few weeks. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to give her an formal evaluation because I dropped the class too soon. My dealings with her have, by far, been my worst experiences as Western.

Comment:

For the level of excellence that she expects, she should be teaching only 4th year classes. I am not a top of the class student, however the level she requires to receive even a B is ridiculous. Her comment are blunt, and when you try to correct them, she finds the mistake and makes other critiques. She is very hard to please, not recommended.

She is very knowledgeable and helpful. I have never had such specific feedback on essays and I knew exactly what I needed to fix. Her advice "they criticize my product not me" was helpful. I would highly recommend taking this course if you really want to improve your writing. I did well and I have the confidence to take more writing courses.

The most tough marker i have ever had in my entire university career. I have never received such horrible marks. Work i would regularly receive at least a 75+ on, i was instead given mid 60s. She is impossible to please. Oh, and if you do fulfill her needs, she will continue to criticize something else. Taking her online course is a complete regret

I like to think of myself as a good student who genuinely cares for my grades and education. By no means am I a genius but I do my schoolwork to the best of my ability. Now, I took this class in second year and it was one of the more unfortunate experiences at UWO. Please if you are just a good kid and student like me, please stay away. Believe me.

It's true she's a hard marker, but I've never had such specific feedback on essays before, and her grading criteria was really clear, so I knew exactly what needed fixing. When I met her in person she was really helpful. Got the sense that she wants her students to do well.

Worst prof - I'm a strong writer and I have never received such low marks on essays before - she never has anything positive to say, and gives horrible feedback - expects you to read her mind and figure out what she wants you to write - avoid!!

AWFUL professor. Never take a class with her, seriously save yourself! (Or you will be making comments on here like me!). Never had such a bad professor in all of my experience. Brutal marker and clearly just an unhappy woman trying to make everybody else miserable too.. Never heard of a person like this, just awful. Really dry, unhelpful lectures.

Her lecture notes were very thorough, but uninspiring. She is a decent speaker, encouraged class participation, however seemed to expect students to read her mind, and this was reflected by the types of marks she took off exams and in essays. Attendence is crucial so you can regurgitate her own ideas back to her on the exam.

I'm not sure why everyone is saying she is such a hard marker. I did better in her class than I have in most English classes. I took an online class so I cannot defend her lecturing (although the online notes for the class were excellent), but overall I would recommend her as a professor. She was very helpful and accomadating to my needs.

I took 2 courses with her, the Novel2500 online was the first and she was a tough marker but her lecture notes were very impressive. Therefore I took 3444 with her in person and was very disapponted - she was just plain boring, even though this is supposed to be her specialty. Also couldn't answer some of my questions about issues in the period.

Wonderful prof. Quirky sense of humour. Helpful and approachable. Great focus on originality and student input. Tough marker, but justifies every grade and breaks down problems to help you improve. Loves nothing more than to hear a student's fresh perspective on an old text. Encourages participation without picking on students in class.
