By far one of the hardest teachers I have ever taken. You have to work your butt off for the tests because he never tests on the right material. I recall one test where there was a 50 year gap between the lecture and the study guide given. Preparing for tests required weeks of preparation. Presidents pop quizzes occurred every week.

Black is one of the hardest teachers iv'e ever had. He is an awesome man outside of the classroom. He's precious... But his tests are intense. I had a study group with 4 people, and it took us about 3 weeks to even complete the study guide. I don't recommend taking this class unless it's the ONLY class you're taking at the time. It's hard as heck

It seemed impossible for me to pass this class; I did extremely well in American History, but with a different professor. Black's teaching style is not suitable for all learners.

Took class spring 05. Tests never matched lecture topic. He'd lecture about 4-5 chapters behind what he'd then test on (ie. lecture on ancient Samaria, test on ancient Rome). I tried to talk to him about it, but he didn't listen. Said I was reading ahead. Promised he would test on lecture topic then tested ahead anyway. Going to class waste of time

The man went out of his way to help me out and pass his History of Christianity class... Western Civ was a good course... This man would stop class to help a student with a problem... Sure the subjects were dry but he truly cared about his students and teaching...

Dr. Black is the best professor I've ever had. His lectures are so interesting (and funny)! I would love to take another class from him. All tests are essay, and he wants LOTS of details. The only time you need the book is if you take the quizzes for your project. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO CLASS! I ended up with a C and got 93-100's on every test.

During a discussion on war loving leaders, I called George W. Bush a warmonger. Dr. Black told me "Son, you've slit your own throat and you are dying slowly!" I had the highest average in class and one week later I was ousted from the school.
