Comment:

Getty is a piece of work. Very theatrical. His class is a little tricky at first but he basically uses the same format for every exam. It gets repetitive. He tends to ramble on sometimes and it's easy to stop paying attention.

Comment:

This class was disappointing. Dr. Getty despises students who don't do well on his exams.He makes rude comments when handing back exams. He is sarcastic and won't help you when you go to see him. He may be extremely smart but he looks down upon others and is obviously full of himself. He is only nice to Art majors who are getting A's on exams.

Clive is really a pretentious prof. He doesn't care about the student grades or GPA. On our first exam 1/3 of the class failed. He offers no extra credit and the only grades are 3 exams and 1 optional essay. His style is punitive, it's a lot of memorizing. He doesn't empathize with students, he's out to fail as many students as possible.

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT! Getty is such a nice guy, and what a wonderful teacher! Art History comes alive in his class, he transports you: if he's talking about art in England, you feel like you're there. If he's teaching a French artist, you think you're in Paris. I come HAPPY to class; he's so entertaining. Absurd knowledge of art,it's AMAZING.

EXCELLENT TEACHER!!!!! Too bad he is retiring!!!!! MU will not find another Art Hist teacher as good as him. Students LEARN, actually LEARN with him. Exams are intense and require a lot of time to prepare. You won't sleep but you'll want to go to class to absorb everything he has to offer. FANTASTIC teacher. Already miss him, wish he woudn't leave!

HE HAS TO RETIRE!!! He is HORRIBLE with technology, he makes everybody's lives HELL! Arrogant and does not trust students' abilities. I DO NOT CARE HOW MUCH KNOWLEDGE HE HAS. HE IS A BITTER OLD MAN. If you don't have a passion for Art History, I strongly recommend you to NOT take this course! Getty doesn't teach well. He just rushes through the material and expects you to just get it. Exams are HARD so you MUST study. Only gives exams and a optional paper as grades so if you do bad on one, your grade suffers. Didn't like this class AT ALL.

I loved this class! Getty is a great teacher! Yes, the exams are quite challenging but if you attend class and read the material they are pretty easy. He gets really excited when he talks about different pieces and is......entertaining!

Getty was by far my favorite professor at Miami. I learned more from his classes than probably any others. It's true that his classes are difficult, but if you do the work they're very rewarding. Going to class is essential, and taking copious notes is helpful. I also found it helpful to review the slides before exams.

If I didn't have to take his classes I wouldn't. They are ridiculously difficult - much more than courses taught by other art profs. They do not prepare you for the level of difficulty in his courses. His arrogance also makes him difficult to approach.

Dr. Getty is not a good teacher at all. He speaks way too fast, doesn't involve the class at all and crams in way too much material before the tests. He posts the slides (without names) 2/3 days before tests giving you hardly any time to identify, make flashcards and then learn the material all before the tests. His test are unreasonably hard.

Dr. Getty is a very old school teacher. Lectures, slide memorization (with slides made available two days before the tests), very little involvement with students, and his diction is very hard to listen to for any period of time. His tests are god awful and I would never recommend his classes to anyone. There are better art history teachers!

I am an art major and his class is kicking my butt. I study for days and he makes it close to impossible to pass his tests. He takes off EXTRA points if you answer questions and get them wrong (versus just leaving them blank) which can be a real killer. He is really entertaining but also hard to understand because he is so theatrical.

Getty is a character. Enthusiastic, funny, smart - he's a great guy. The tests can be a bit tricky and seemingly subjective material is tested objectively, but overall a good class. Reading the text is helpful (unfortunately) and flashcards are a must. Go to class, too. It is helpful.

Amazing professor, really knows his stuff. He does rock a sweater vest everyday but he's very enthusiastic. Book reading is not necessary at all, IF you attend lecture because his notes come from the book. Lots of memorization required but not hard material.
