If you're one of those students who is more interested in the grade you achieve, rather than what you learn, and how your mind is expanded, then Colleen is NOT the prof for you. She is passionate about what she teaches, and expects you're there to LEARN, rather than regurgitate. This leaves some students bewildered, and anxious.

Colleen is very smart, but has problems organizing her thoughts. Super scattered and seems to not address questions when asked. What was on the final was not what she said would be, I was very disappointed.

Nice gal, bad prof. Doesn't teach off the textbook, even though it's needed for midterms. Makes the lectures about her and her experience, not about what we should be learning. Uni was closed during our final, instead of rescheduling she made a final assignment due that week on an ethnography. Made us study the textbook though it wasn't on the exam

Gives interesting lectures. Kind but very scatterbrained. Gives weekly quizzes and homework assignments so doing the reading is essential. Unfortunately, she told us we could turn in all our homework on the last day - guess who's struggling to finish it all.

Gave her own cell number out because it was the fastest way to get in touch with her. Little patience for those asking questions already addressed (ask a class mate). Passionate about her topic, very knowledgeable and great lecturer. Not an easy class, quiz and paper every week. Got an A on my final project even though it was late. Cool prof.

I'm sure she's a nice person, but as a teacher she can be really frustrating. I find her very unhelpful, and it seems like she discourages people from asking questions and takes pleasure in embarrassing students who ask the wrong ones. She doesn't show up for her office hours, and doesn't do email.

While I liked Colleen as a person and her interest in the class topics are clear, it seems as though Colleen makes a point to establish her superiority over her students. In fact, upon her own admission, no student at VIU is worthy of an A+.

Colleen makes no effort to help her students. She doesn't do online resources or email, doesn't show up to her office hours, and shoots down questions in class. While she's laid back, and that's all some people want, I prefer a teacher who is helpful and considerate. Her effort level is minimal, I'm surprised she still has a job.

While Colleen is indeed scatter-brained, usually late, and cancels often she is a hilarious and open person. She talks about her field study...every day... but everyone has so much fun during her class, everything is very relaxed. On tues you do an EASY quiz on the chapter you were supposed to have read, then thurs is a lecture or a movie, EASY A !

Colleen is disorganized, cancels classes, constantly complains and makes excuses during the ones she shows up for, takes up to 3 weeks to mark assignments, and uses class time VERY inefficiently. I really like her as a person, but she is the most frustrating prof I have ever had. Very unprofessional. She shows up late every day, often unprepared.

Thoroughly accessible professor. She generously shares her experiences from her varied and exciting paths which led her to life in our sleepy little community. This alone is worthy of taking her courses. I'm amazed by her willingness to help students & her colleagues extensively, well after regular school/work hours. High Kudos!

Constantly goes off on tangents but I found them interesting. There were quizzes every week. Extremely easy A if you just read the text and put a bit of effort into the final project. Colleen is a great professor who focuses on discussing issues rather than making you memorize and regurgitate information.

Colleen is a good teacher and she's really fun, but has trouble sticking to the topic sometimes. We take no notes at all, because the 3 hour class consists of her telling stories and a short quiz. I've been frustrated, but in the end I think she's a good teacher and a really nice person. I will be taking her classes again for sure.
