Comment:

Professor Chen is a very lecture heavy teacher. You have to read every class, and there are two papers + a midterm and a final. I still enjoyed her despite the reading, + workload. If you take her class you HAVE TO participate. Please just raise your hand all the time (she loves it). I did that and a large reason I prob am going to get a B

I would 100% take her again. Yes you have to do your work, but not too much effort to get a good grade. She grades a little tough, but before exams and essays are due go speak to her. She will literally explain everything she wants to see. She is also so nice unlike many other teachers she's accommodating and is wiling to listen.

Not a lot of homework, just two papers that required no outside research but a LOT of reading. She is a VERY tough grader, without a lot of specific feedback. Also, you HAVE to go to class, each lecture contains most of the information needed for the test, none of it is online, which was rather inconvenient. She did go over a lot of information tho

All you have to do is participate. I did not put much effort into the one paper that was due, which is why I got a B+. If you pay attention and participate this class is enjoyable and easy. If you don't pay attention or participate, good luck. Study guides are straight forward and I thought the material was interesting even though history bores me.

I personally did not like her class. Her lectures are dull and boring. You must take notes and there is mandatory attendance. She is a tough grader. I did not enjoy her class because she was rude and talks down to you. It's her way and you better expect to agree with her.

Best lecturer I've had at LMU. That being said, she expects you to retain the info for the midterm and final. Must take notes! But lectures go at a good pace and you get outlines for the week. You have one paper on either Indians or Slaves. She counts participation.

I really, really enjoyed her class. She made clear exactly what she expected and the format of her lectures, classes, and tests were straightforward and consistent. I appreciated her outlines for each class most of all. Homework is just readings, so not bad at all! Make sure you show up to class, participate, and take good notes.

One paper (choose from two books, one about an woman kidnapped by indians due in september and the other of a freed slave due in november) Midterm and a final..gives study guides and makes it very clear what she wants in papers and examines. Isn't a ruthless grader but definitely not easy. The way she lectures makes it easy to retain information

The class SEEMS easy. One midterm, one paper, and final is the same length as the midterm. Midterm and final essay questions are given beforehand. SEEMS easy. Beware of her grading. RIDICULOUS grader! Some history majors received Cs or Ds on papers/essays. She is RUDE is class and laughs at students. Attendance is NECESSARY...no text, only lecture.

At first she seems completely terrifying, but she loosens up and is actually funny and nice! You MUST go to class because she lectures a lot and you MUST take notes, but I think her tests are reasonable because she tells you the format beforehand. I think I've learned the most about history from her and I'm glad I had her as my teacher for history!

she's really nice if you come to class on time and participate in class every once in a while. not much hw, just a couple pages from primary source readings every night. tests are short answer/essay format. 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 paper on a book. 2 stupid books read outside class and you write a paper on 1.

Prof. Chen is very passionate and knowledgeable about history. There is no textbook for the class, and the only hw is very short reading assignments. Participation and attendance are important, and your grade is based on those, the midterm, final, and one paper. Fairly difficult class, but if you take good notes, you'll be okay.

Awesome teacher. A little boring, yes, but also consistent, fair, helpful, clear, & organized. She tells you exactly what to expect on the 3 tests. Only 1 paper but its graded tough. Attendance mandatory. Take good notes & you will be fine, tests come straight from lecture. Loves students who participate. Not a hard class. Excellent professor.
