He was incredibly passionate for the subject and students he worked with. It was hard to follow his lectures at the beginning because he is a bit disorganized, after 3-4 you should be able to get the hang of it. Keep in mind, he knows his stuff, so if you can I'd recommend going to get extra help from him if you don't understand something.

His worst quality is by far his lack of emailing. He'll avoid you like the plague for months, and forget about the summer. He is an excellently intelligent lecturer and seminar leader, though sometimes goes to far in proving his superiority to his students. On the whole, some great characteristics, some awful in a professor. But he does work hard.

Great professor, great energy, super intelligent and fun. He makes a real effort to get to know each student individually which is a difficult task and much appreciated. I'll happily take another class with him if I can.

I'm surprised this guy rates so high on here. He was one of my least favourite professors in first year. No textbook and lecture slides are one word. Better pay attention although skipping WWI and spending time on the cold war was awful. Term project was annoying (about the cold war again :( ). He was absent fairly often too.

Samson is one of those professors whose love of his work comes across very clearly while giving a lecture. He immediately grabs your attention and draws you in while teaching, and it makes classses fly by. Not afraid to call out students who are being disruptive and tries to generate class discussions when possible.

Professor Samson avoided and dodged my multiple emails/phone messages about unfair marks. After finally meeting with him, he read my essay and agreed it deserved a better mark. Advised me to get back to him again. Which i tried to do for months. Still have recieved no response after hounding his email and phone. total lack of tactfulness. poor form

Great, great prof. You'll love him or hate him. Don't confuse his impressive intelligence with arrogance. He's can come off as tough, but if you bother to take the time to talk to him one-on-one, you'll find he's easy-going & realistic about his expectations. Knows what he's talking about, and clearly loves his discipline (thank goodness)!

Excellent professor!! After taking his course I felt like I had learned a great deal! His lectures are very well presented and he is one of the clearest prof's I have ever had. Fair marker, + humour with no limits... Excellent!!
