Comment:

Bankert can be very unclear for assignments not to mention she is a tough grader. Two presentations, two papers, and Two 30 page Commonplace book journals ,which are super hard!! The journals are close readings of the text, honestly more work than necessary. You read 5 sagas but some can be long (like 200 pages). Don't take if you don't have to.

Dr. Bankert is the most brilliant woman I've ever met. Class is fun and homework assignments are never pointless or busywork. I learned an incredible amount. She was a tough grader, but she's very accessible outside of class if you want to talk to her about an assignment before you turn it in.

She's a tough grader and will rip your essays apart. The presentations we did in class were a bit of a fiasco-- hopefully she'll streamline them for future classes. The tests were fair. If you read the material and take good notes, you'll be well prepared for her straightforward exams. GO TO CLASS and PARTICIPATE and she'll like you.

One of the worst professors I have ever had. She is not specific about any of her papers, she is rude and not a very understanding person. Really hated going to her class. Her voice is so annoying. Says attendance isn't mandatory, but contradicts herself by having a sign in sheet. Would NOT recommend her to anyone. TERRIBLE teacher

Interesting class, but not motivating to go to. Lots of reading, but work level isn't bad at all. Requirements/expectations a little confusing at times, but overall an enjoyable class. Bankert is very helpful and VERY passionate. Overall great professor.

Run while you still can, I went to her for help, she outlined my paper with me and wrote 2 paragraphs with me and then gave me a bad grade. please if you like English and you like JMU find a new professor

I'm an English major. I had Bankert for 299 and at first I didn't like her, she graded my papers EXTREMELY harshly and was not tolerant of any absences, but she is VERY intelligent and she works her butt of for the English Dept. and students. GO see her in her office hours, and if you need help ask. I now have a ton of respect for her.

Most of my English profs would give papers back with barely any feedback and an unexplained A at the top. Dr. Bankert actually reads your work and, even though I got a C on the first paper, I was so happy because the paper was covered in feedback and ways to make my writing better. She is really smart and a great professor, very interesting.

if you take her for 299 expect to buy tons of thick books & spend all your time in the reference section, learning trivial methods you'll never use again. her syllabus for 299says "it's time to develop a pathological obcession with your calendar". shes cool if u go to offciehours. make sure to write HER argument and not yours, othewise its wrong!!

Very helpful to students, is very interested in her work and knows what she is talking about. One midterm which isn't hard if you read the texts and do the discussion questions. Homework every day, but this is college! Three essays which are pretty difficult but you can send her a draft and she'll offer you advice. Highly recommend her.

Dabney is one of the most unclear teachers I have ever had. Though she is nice in person, her class will ultimately annoy you unless you love medieval literature. She is anal and always stressed. Shes helpful when it comes to editing papers so if you want a good grade, show her your drafts.
