He has a very dry personality and lectures A LOT. I found it difficult to follow along because of his lecture style. If you are not prepared to study and ask questions in class, you should not take his class. If you have a solid work ethic, you can pass this class.

Dr. Curtis is one of the most dry professors I have ever taken. He puts lecture outlines on his moodle page; however, they are no help. If you don't show up and pay attention you wont pass. Screw up a test, you won't pass. I would look for a different professor if I was you.

Not an easy class at all. The PowerPoint adds very little insight so you must listen to him lecture to understand what is going on.

Great teacher and knows what he is talking about. However the tests are incredibly difficult. It consists of about 25 ids, 20 multiple choice, and an essay. The ids and essay are easy, but the multiple choice is IMPOSSIBLE. Be ready to read the chapters and pay attention in class.

Class is easy Curtis is a tough grader in general, but not unreasonable. He's responsible with his teaching, when he fell behind on grading he extended due dates for our assignments in exchange. This is my second class with him, and even though he's difficult, he's a good teacher. The class is very easy, read the book, ask a question, couple papers

I took this for my UI400 credit. Honestly I'm glad I took his class because he's really nice and always answered my questions. I missed an a forum post and almost ruined my A but he opened it back up. It was really nice. The class is just reading the book, forum posts, and four biographical profiles. Its an easy A, if you read.

Dr. Curtis is an awesome professor. He is very clear on expectations and his lectures provide all the information you need. His tests are take home essay tests and I've never made below a 90.

Dr. Curtis is an amazing professor. He gives fantastic feedback, encourages students to be creative and share their opinions and reactions, and if you put in the effort he will be there to assist you in any way he can. I have had him for several classes and his material is always challenging but he is such an amazing teacher that you won't mind.

This class is kind of boring but Curtis is a great guy and is really helpful if you just ask. The answers for the tests come straight out of the book. Always make sure you check your articles and books with him for the reviews.

I had heard bad things about his class and tests but basically, if you take good notes and listen to his lecture, there is little use for the book. He takes very few questions from the text and their worth less points. Focus on the IDs of the historical people and solidify your essays. Will answer any questions very thuroughly. Super nice.

He's a nice guy who is clearly very intelligent and well-informed on the subject he teaches, but his class kind of sucks. The tests require a lot of studying and you're tested over a lot of things that he doesn't even mention in his lectures. If you're like me and you don't like history or lectures, don't take his class.

Great teacher and is very, very well rounded on the subject he teaches, although his class may be the hardest to stay awake though. All test material is on study guide, as long as you actualy use the study guide for its antended purpose you will receive and easy A for this class.

Good guy, quizzes over material are very hard, study well for that, the final is easy, I got 100 percent on it, but maintain a decent average going into it and come prepared for all class sessions. Overall, I would recommend this teacher.

Historeography/Curtis. He's difficult, mono-tone, and has high standards. If you can make it though, read the book, read what he asks you to read, and try to stay engaged then things could go well. You have to try but Curtis knows more than maybe any one else in the departement. He's a nice guy and understanding, talk to him after class if needed.

Lectures alot, but come test time, none of the questions come from the lectures. Doesn't explain assignments well, so lots of confusion. Grades hard too.

Curtis is a good guy. Problem is, he reads straight from the book for this class. So it's pointless to come to class unless you have a quiz or group discussion. I guess I've just found easy ways around history classes, but its an easy grade so take it if you need the course.

Dr. Curtis is a very smart teacher, and I find his classes fascinating. I have had him twice now, and I think he's one of the best history teachers at SEMO. His classes involve a good amount of work though, but I got an A even though I didn't go to class every time.

Dr. Curtis is awesome! He is what I think an "old school" prof was like...and no he's not old. His knowledge base is vast. A true Renaissance man. Rusty is one of the most approachable and helpful profs I've met. All of this said, I got my only "C" that I have ever received, in this class, and I still look forward to more classes with him!

Although I learned more than I thought I would, I would never have taken the class if it wasn't that its required for my degree. His teaching style just isn't the best way I learn through so the class was rather difficult.
