I would take him again. Out of the teachers who teach ceramics he is the HARDEST for HANDBUILDING, yes. But for ADVANCED ceramics levels 2 and up, he is a great teacher. He wants you to have a grasp on the basics, and he knows them well! Ask him ANY question and he is WILLING to help you. Seriously, pay attention, talk to him, and work hard.

Pope is a great teacher and is very helpful! The below comments are true about the notebook-it is hard! During the first day of class when he warns you of this do not be surprised to find out he didn't lie.I hope other students to not avoid taking his course because of these reviews. If you want to learn then I would recommend taking his class.

Hard to get a good grade if you think it's supposed to be easy and fun. There's a lot of paperwork but it teaches you how to follow directions (if you can't do it in a college level art class, how will you do it in life?). As long as you pay attention and do the work you're supposed to do, you should get a good grade.

He is very funny and smart. Very helpful too. I don't see why so many people are calling him a joke... But the notebook is a lot of work. You MUST put in extra time in order to get an A in the class. Notebook MUST be perfect. In all, I loved the class.

This guy is super intelligent and insightful. He challenges people to think abstractly and yes, uses the class as a philosophy outlet to try and get young minds to think outside the box. He's super helpful and supportive of self-expression. He may not give you an A, but if you listen you will learn something. I believe that's the point of this all.

HARDEST CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN! JUST KNOW THAT TAKING HIS CLASS YOU ARE GOING TO GET A C AND THATS THAT! HANDOUTS MORE PAPERS THEN EVERY CLASS AT THIS SCHOOL COMBINED! SO SO BAD! He gives out more papers than an English 100 class. Why would someone make it SO DANG HARD for students to receive an A or B in an Art class. DO NOT take him. If you want to take ceramics take hanky or the other teachers.. just not him!

Horrible teacher. Harrassed me through emails for two semesters after taking the course. I was continuously demanded to make him homemade cookies because I received an A. His assignments are ridiculous and emailed me for the first time stating that I would be receiving a B for answering a math/chemistry question wrong. After continuously harassing me throughout Christmas I managed to answer the dumb thing correctly with the help of a friend who received a full scholarship to MIT.

THIS CLASS IS HARD. Don't expect above a C unless you do a bunch of his paper work or if you're a girl that wears provocative clothing. He teaches on things that don't even relate to ceramics. His lectures are boring and he rambles off on topics that aren't even related to ceramics. He also talks about politics and his own personal beliefs ALOT!

Pope is crazy. He assigns a ridiculous amount of projects and since he rambles on for an hour of class and gives you quizzes on everything BUT ceramics, you barely have time to complete anything. I stayed late ALL THE TIME! I loved ceramics before this, now I lost my passion for it. He is a nice guy, just weird. BEWARE OF THE FINGERNAILS!!!

He is an honestly hard teacher when it comes to the notebook everyone talks about, BUT the ceramics projects are fun. His class teaches you that life is hard but does have it's fun points, I never really knew how hard it is to make a pot, it's pretty easy to get a B but super hard to get an A. Very good at teaching ceramics. Helps anytime you need it. Allows quite a bit of freedom regarding creativity. Thinks he's a philosopher and uses class to talk about what I think are weird ideas. VERY hard to get an A in 150A. You MUST keep up with the notebook and do every single assignment completely, with no detail left undone.

There is a lot of paperwork for this class. He does this so you understand that you're in college now. Don't take it with the intention that it will be fun... the class will beat you then. It is very hard to get an A or B but if you ask for help A LOT, more then every class day, then it will not be AS bad. If you choose him good luck you'll need it
