Excellent speaker and very knowledgeable. Very friendly in person too. Loved his World history class. Tests are essay but good prep for upper-level courses.

Interesting material, and this guy really knew it. The professor is good, although sometimes the material can get a little dry and he can drone. The real problem was the TA from hell. This guy was wildly inconsistant with grading, and had the absurd expectation that during an in-class exam you would be able to quote verbatim from an outside text

Quite an orator. Knows his subject and teaches it well. Essay style tests were a nightmare to study for - but if you put in the effort, an A is possible. This dude is an asset to OSU.

Professor Sarefield is an excellent teacher. He really knew the material and presented it well. The maps and images really helped the material come alive. He is a great storyteller too. If you like Roman history take this course!

Well intentioned but frustratingly disorganized. Seldom returned emails, kept appointments made, supplied materials promised, etc. Lectures were interesting and eased the 2 hours. Grading necessarily objective but inconsistent based on comparisons with classmates. A is possible but by no means easy.

2 exams, one paper. Exams require you to memorize author, date, location, significance, historical context for around 20-30 sources. Simply finding the answers to all of these questions if very time consuming, then you have to memorize. Exams must have just been changed bc everyone else said this class is very easy. Attendance is mandatory.

Great professor. Lots of reading but not compleatly necessary that you do it. Midterm and final are takehome but very long (5 page midterm, 8 page final). Lectures are interesting. He's so hot, the hottest teacher I've ever had with the sexyist voice ever. Some times I would zone out b/c I was mesmerized by his looks and voice.

attendance important, but class not very difficult if you pay attention. my ta (yigit akin) made the class much better than if just lecture notes were used. kind of painful to go every day, id suggest taking history in the long blocks that only meet twice a week because you could only miss 5 classes and it met every day.

Sarefield gave great presentations and he's an engaging speaker. Very interesting class content that was well prepared. He was a very visual lecturer. He will grade hard on the papers, so keep up on the reading for them. Apuleius is a great read though.

very nice, smart, well spoken. class material interesting and he adds to it. has excitment about teaching. no focus on detail just understand the broad ideas. 1 essay midterm, 1 essay final, 1 5 page report on a short book no homework tests or quizzes. A- in class

Very eloquent, knows what he's talking about. He doesn't just stand up there & yap, he makes lectures somewhat interesting cuz the material itself is pretty cool. Helpful, willing to work with you. The exam is straightforward because they give you all the material beforehand, so it's pretty much up to you how much effort you wanna put into it.

Sarefield's a nice, smart guy, but the class structure bothered me. Basically, the exams focused heavily on the primary sources and could have been completed easily without once going to lectures. However, he requires attendance at lectures, making it so that you have to be there, but there's no real reason to actually pay attention or take notes.

Sarefield is a great guy and knows what he's talking about. The class was easy, two exams and a five page paper on a book, and all of the exam questions were given in advance. The only bad part is that he takes attendance but your allowed four misses.
