Avoid taking IT/MSIS111 with him. His tests are outrageous and are full of trick questions to throw you off. Even though he allows u to bring in two cheat sheets it's still ridiculous how different the test is from the homework and examples he goes over in class. If you do the homework it's not worth anything but if you dont u lose points.

He explains everything to a T. He doesn't take attendance but its highly recommended that you go to class because he teaches the chapters really well. He goes over everything and gives you a cheat sheet for all the tests which are exactly how he teaches. Only four tests and that's it. Do the hw and you won't get points taken off.

By far the best professor I've ever had!! If 30% of profs were like this guy I'd have a 4.0GPA. CLEARLY EXPLAINS ALL THE PROBLEMS, GIVES HW THEN THE ANSWERS TO IT. LETS YOU BRING IN A CHEAT SHEET FOR THE TESTS ALTHOUGH THE TESTS ARE IDENTICAL TO THE HW!! EASY EASY A! I LEARNED ALOT IN HIS CLASS AND USE THE MATERIAL TILL TODAY. THANK YOU

Professor Shimshak is great! I had him twice, once for Stats and once for Operations. He is undoubtedly the best professor I have ever had! Last time I took him was two years ago, and what I learned from his class still comes in handy in my other classes as well as my internship. PS. I am a finance and accounting major.

Amazing professor. Very clear spoken, and is always willing to help. HW isn't graded, but doing it helps you along(its easy and very worth your while to do it) He teaches you real life stuff that is beneficial. Definitely top 3 teachers I have ever had. I am taking him again for msis301.

I never leave comments on this thing but he is one of the best teachers Iv ever had at umass. Stats isn't an easy subject and you will have to put in time into this class but Shimshak helps you. I love his teaching methods. I hate anything math related and he makes this subject interesting and easier to understand. TAKE HIM YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT

Great professor. His enthusiasm about this dry as bones topic helped me get through the class. He gives some of the clearest explanations I've ever heard. The actually class, however, made me hungry for the barrel of a loaded gun. Not his fault; the topic is just god-awful boring, but it did give me some valuable tools.

attendance is not mandatory. very good professor, very loud also. tests are fair, it's basically the homework questions with different numbers. he deducts a lot of points tho for miscalculations. there are 4 tests including the final, scales the highest 25% the rest are 20%,the remaining 15% is a paper which is fairly simple. good class, recommend!

took his msis301 class based on the reviews here. He is a really good teacher in terms of clarifying and explaining. However, his exams are very hard and has unclear questions. The two pages of cheat sheet doesn't help, because you don't know what to expect. Take him if you are a critical thinker and can put in the effort to actually learn it.

Shimshak is amazing. MSIS301 was graded on his tests. He lets you use 2 pages of notes and homeworks are due by test day. He's always prepared, speaks loud and clear and is always there for any help you need, and he has a great sense of humor. Exactly what a professor should be. Take his class!!!

He is a great educator, only thing was that there was little interaction with fellow classmate i.e no class activities. He rewards hard-workers as usual. He has some jokes that can run dry a little bit too often. Overall, if you put in your effort, you will pass.

Ok professor, understood the homework and computer assignments, but tests were harder than the homework. Studied and did everything, reading, and took my time during the homework and still only got a B for the course. Good class but can be boring if you don't do the readings and homework. Do the readings and assignments!

The lowest grade I ever got!! >.< BUT Professor Shimshak has a great sense of humor and is also a good teacher. You must read the material and pay attention in class, do the assignments - in short, it's a tough subject and you've got to work hard to get the grade you want. I have faith in this professor and am taking another course with him!
