Comment:

Darlene is a pretty good prof. Her lectures are super heavy so prepare to take lots of notes. However, she really cares about her students and is very generous in giving marks. There were 3 "quizzes" (mini midterms), one paper, and no final. Go to class because she takes attendance and counts it towards your final grade. I would recommend this prof

Comment:

Darlene is a great prof. You can tell she is extremely passionate about the topics she teaches. There are 3 midterms, and one paper, no final. For the midterms you basically have to memorize the slides. The book used in class was useless.

Comment:

Her lectures could get pretty boring and I found it hard to know what exactly to study for the midterms. However, she marks extremely easy. Three midterms, a case study, participation marks, and no final. She is very knowledgable of the subject and it is clear she cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Would take this prof again!

Comment:

Lectures were tough to follow. Started taking a laptop for notes which helped(could google things on the side). She uses complicated language and sometimes doesn't explain the event/concept fully enough. Exams were fairly easy and she is a VERY generous marker. Would take her again after learning more about it first.

Darlene was awesome, lectures were scattered sometimes but you won't do well in the class without them. Take notes on her powerpoint slides. Tests were hard to study for but marked fairly easily. Overall pretty good professor and enjoyable class!

Darlene has a comfortable classroom setting and is one prof who really cares about her students. I highly recommend her. Her class is sometimes hard to follow if you are dozing off or browsing facebook but if you pay attention then it is not bad at all.

A tough course, but made a lot better by having a great instructor. I would take her class again. Papers make you think, and you have much reading to do; but she explains difficult concepts with ease.

Darlene will challenge you because she gives A LOT of information in her lectures. You will not get a strong mark if you do not attend class and ask questions (should anything be unclear). She also takes attendance for participation marks. That said, she's extremely passionate and it was an absolute pleasure to take her class. FANTASTIC.

Her 100-level was amazing. She spiced up the otherwise (could be) dull historical subject matter by theming everything we looked at. Other than taking her class, I have seen her speak publicly on a few different topics and she is so knowledgeable on everything (no lie). She is a little tough with marking, but it is to be expected at the 100-level.

Comment:

Darlene is very knowledgeable, and overall a good professor. She's pretty funny and definitely passionate. Marks consist of no final exam, just 3 tests, a case study and participation. Readings aren't necessary, but helpful. If you want a good mark, you better know your stuff. Getting in the 90's in hard but not impossible.

SUCH a nice lady and ALWAYS available if you need to talk/have questions. Very understanding about other commitments. Lectures were sometimes hard to follow but nothing major. I really recommend this prof in any subject that she teaches.

Engage in the material! She is so passionate about feminisms that she will make you be passionate about WGST too, and that's the key to doing well in her class. When she says study the powerpoint slides for exams, take it literally. Memorize stuff on the slides! And don't be afraid to email her. She replies promptly and with clear advice!

Darlene is a very kind hearted person. She responded to my emails very quick and was nice and friendly. However, her exams are quite difficult. She doesn't tell you what's on them and what to study, she just says to use the power points.. Which are extremely vague. I felt like her exam questions were different from the material she lectured.

Darlene is a great lady, but I also found her class a little hard to follow. Lectures got confusing and a little hard to follow, but still did pretty well on her exams with not a ton of studying. Her TA is not good at all though, marks inconsistently with what Darlene had said in class. I ended up with a decent mark, but not the greatest class

One of the worst professors I have ever had. I love feminism, and was really excited to take WGST. However, Darlene is impossible to follow. She name drops, uses irrelevant examples, and uses an entire 75 minute class for lecture, with 0 time for questions or student input. Do NOT recommend this professor to anyone interested in taking WGST classes

Worse class ever! Whoever marks her stuff marks really unfair, & her lecture hardly follows her power points! Her points on her power points are also not even full sentences so they make zero sense! Don't take her class!

Very confusing lectures and the powerpoints have sentence fragments and dont make any sense at all. When you ask her a question her replies dont make sense and make you even more confused. She expects way too much out of a 100-level class, and is a very tough marker. I do not recommend this class at all!!!

She provides very challenging and engaging material, and is very clear on her expectations. She is helpful and an inspiring prof. I love taking classes from Darlene.
